Wain's Wonders - GW36

6 May 2015

27 points, 3 Gw’s to go, 9 points required each week.

That is what I am faced with for the rest of the season if I am going to be crowned Fantasy Premier League Champion 2014/2015. Let’s look what happened this past GW to get into that position…

Wain’s Wonders performed as well as most other teams in the top 50 this week, returning a total of 65 points with a GW rank of just under 200,000. It meant that I dropped one position to 3rd overall but most importantly managed to take 8 points off Simon March who scored 57. I had decided that I needed a differential captain this week and putting myself in the leaders shoes I reckoned he would play safe with Hazard. It meant it was Sergio Aguero for me as I entered the week with Vardy, Aguero, Skrtel and Schmiechel as my differentials.

Leicester managed to win the early kick off 3-0 but somehow Vardy, despite a man of the match performance, did not return any attacking points and even missed a last minute header. The Leicester clean sheet and Morgan goal was much celebrated and after Saturdays fixtures I was 7 points up on Mr March with Aguero to play vs Kane and Hazard.

For a brief moment, as Speroni managed to keep out the PFA Player of the Years penalty, I thought I was in for a massive gain but as he slotted the resulting header home we were pretty much bback to evens for the weekend. Aguero managed to slot home a great counter attack from Man City and with Harry Kane once again blanking, I ended the GW 8 points up. 8 points isn’t a massive gain but with the lead now under 30 points it feels much more achievable. The big winners at the top this week were those that kept Myhill in goal or drafted in Sanchez or Benteke as differentials.

Heading into GW 36 there are some big decisions to be made for all managers. Arsenal, who comfortably beat Hull 3-1 on Monday night, have a DGW coming up in GW 37 along with Sunderland. It is only a matter of time before all teams have 3 Arsenal players and the only difficulty is working out which 3 players are the best options. Is it best to have a defender, a midfielder and a striker or 3 attacking assets? I have even seen some people going for 3 Arsenal midfielders to hopefully cover any attacking returns that Arsenal may produce which isn't an option for me as I already own Giroud but is something to consider for those chasing mini league victory.

Having ensured a differential captaincy this past week, I am faced with another tough captaincy dilemma this week. Do I play safe and captain Aguero at home to QPR as I imagine most players will do or is this the week to gamble and captain someone else in a hope to make a big dent in the lead. Jeff Ryan, current world number 4, showed more steel than I displayed as he drafted in and captained Benteke who scored two goals. Maybe I will follow suit and find myself hiding behind the sofa as QPR doggedly try to keep Aguero out of the points!

That’s all for this week but let us know your thoughts on transfers and captaincy options in the comments below or over on Twitter @jawain04. As ever I am happy to answer any questions about your team if you need another head to analyse potential moves.
