Brentford Assets Compared

Fantasy Football Fix 8 March 2023

Brentford have five matches over the next three gameweeks and have no blanks till the end of the season, so getting the right players from the London side is vital. In this blog, their numbers are compared since the restart.

It comes as no surprise to see Toney topping the Stats Sandbox for xFPL (51.87), only Raya (48) has racked up more FPL points than his 47 amongst Brentford players since the restart. He is comfortably on top for both shots (25), shots on target (SoT), 'big chances' (seven) and 'Expected Goals' (xG) (5.39). Jensen has gone under the radar a bit with 45 FPL points in their last nine matches, the Danish international has scored three goals from nine attempts but has notched only a paltry 1.33 xG. He has attempted seven assists but as the 'Expected Assists' (xA) figure of 0.35 shows, these have not been high quality chances. Mbeumo's numbers are decent, the 23-year-old is second for xG (3.04) and has had five 'big chances' compared to Toney's seven. He is also top for attempted assists (13) with only Nørgaard (1.80) registering a higher xA (1.42)

As the above image from our Fix Comparison Matrix shows, Mee and Pinnock have played every minute for Brentford since the restart with Henry missing one game because of a minor calf problem. The centre-back duo have racked up 39 points each with a goal apiece, Henry is not too far behind with 31, with one assist. There is nothing to seperate the two centre-backs on goal threat as well with both managing six shots each but Pinnock landing four on target compared to just one for Mee. Henry has attempted six assists and is significantly ahead for penalty area actions (26) but is given less attacking freedom when Brentford play with a back four versus a five. On the basis of this comparison, it is close between Pinnock and Henry with Mee not justifying the significantly higher outlay.

What do the projections say?

Raya tops the Fix Algorithm predictions for gameweek 27 with a score of 10.1 with Toney in second at 9.7. Henry (8.2) is the third highest projected Brentford asset with Mee (7.9) and Pinnock (7.6) close behind. Jensen (7.1) is marginally ahead of Mbeumo at 7.0.

On the basis of this analysis, Raya and Toney look to be the best picks with the third close between Henry, Pinnock and Mbeumo.
