Burnley and Everton are the only teams to feature twice in gameweek 31 and in this blog the two teams are put under the microscope to determine whether their assets are worthy of investment. Averages are used since certain teams have had additional fixtures.
A look at the Stats Sandbox team stats for the last six gameweeks shows that Everton (0.71) and Burnley (0.81) rank 20th and 18th for 'Expected Goals' (xG) which is no surprise given their position in the league table. The Clarets are also bottom for shots per game (8.63) while only Brighton (2.57) have landed fewer shots on target (SoT) than their 2.63. Everton fare poorly for SoT (2.86) as well (15th) . In terms of 'big chances' created, Everton are 19th (0.86) while Burnley are 17th (1.25). These are very poor numbers
The defensive numbers are quite poor as well, especially for Everton. The Toffees are ranked 16th for 'Expected Goals Conceded' (xGC) (1.61) and 19th for shots conceded (15.14). Their defenders certainly cannot be recommended but this could be promising for Burnley's attackers. The Clarets' defensive numbers are better but not by much. They are ranked 13th for both xGC (1.40) and shots conceded (14.25).
A look at the individual player stats from both teams has Weghorst on top for xG (0.21). The Dutchman is ranked 16th amongst all forwards over the last six gameweeks which puts that number into perspective. Everton's striker Richarlison has managed only a paltry 0.12. Iwobi (4.00) and Gordon (3.45) are Everton's best performers in terms of xFPL.
Burnley and Everton are ranked first and fourth on our Fixture Analyser for the next three gameweeks and based on the above numbers, Burnley certainly look more appealing than Everton from a Fantasy Premier League (FPL) perspective. Three of their next five opponents Everton, Norwich and Southampton are in the bottom seven for xGC per game over the last six gameweeks and Weghorst looks a better option than Richarlison for managers looking to get rid of the suspended Jiménez. Similarly in defence, investment in the Clarets' backline is recommended over the Toffees' based on the numbers above and the upcoming schedule.
