This week we shine the spotlight on Elite XI manager Matt Corbidge, take a look at his Gameweek 1 performance, and look ahead to his plans for Gameweek 2.
With an impressive 77 points, Matt has got off to a flying start with Mohamed Salah (£13m) and Erling Haaland (£11.5m) combining to generate almost a third of his total, with the former taking on the captain’s armband.
Salah scored from an xG of 0.52 and created an assist from an xA of 0.39 - taken from the Opta Stats Sandbox
Elsewhere, Matt benefitted from having double Manchester City defence with João Cancelo (£7m) and Ruben Dias (£6m) keeping a clean sheet in a convincing win over West Ham United. On this occasion, opting for the double Liverpool defensive pairing of Trent-Alexander Arnold (£7.5m) and Andrew Robertson (£7m) did not pay off after a surprising 2-2 draw with newly promoted Fulham.
Matt began playing FPL in 2014 and has never finished outside the Top 25k. Of his eight seasons playing the game, five have been within the Top 5k – an exceptional achievement. As a self-confessed patient manager, Matt believes transfers should be treated as precious commodities and puts great thought into each one.
Transfers are precious. After Wildcards, Free Hit and the initial selection, you only get 34 of them across the season before you start having to sacrifice the points you have earned. You absolutely need to make each of them worth it.
We've helped over half-a-million people become better FPL managers.
