Corey Baker
(AKA Kevin Gnapoor)

  • GW6 Points: 35
  • Overall Points: 398
  • Overall Rank: 245k
  • Team Value: £101.3m
  • In The Bank: £0.4m

With a reasonable start in Gameweek 1 and two big green arrows in Gameweeks 4 and 5, Corey Baker has started strongly in the 2022/23 season and was ranked 82k in the world at the end of Gameweek 5. But, just like us mere mortals, the Elite XI managers do have the occasional difficult Gameweek and 35 points in Gameweek 6 has seen Corey drop to 245k and be overtaken by fellow Elite XI manager, Matt Corbidge.

To cite a cliché, “this is a good week to have a bad week” with the average points scored by the Top 10k being just 43.5 (taken from the Insight Live tool) and so Corey, who has now played Fantasy Premier League (FPL) for a decade, will not be too worried about this blip, and is already calmly planning for the future.

Of course, the critical decision for many this week was whether to captain Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) against an Everton side in poor form, or the very much in-form Erling Haaland (£12.0m) who, following Pep Guardiola’s comments, was at risk of his first benching against Aston Villa. In the end there were just 6 points between these decisions but, on a low-scoring gameweek, these points count for a lot more.

Erling Haaland (3)

Haaland's NPxG is 5.99 and puts him in first place. Jesus (in 2nd) has only managed 3.25 in comparison - taken from Opta Stats Sandbox

Other than Haaland (who Corey did not want to score due to his high effective ownership) his only returns came from two assists, one from Neco Williams (£4.1m) and another from Pascal Groß (£6.0).
