Sound the alarms. 2 months of transfer nonsense is about be upon us. There is no more FPL left so prepare yourself for a lot of free time. It’s the last chance for bragging rights and potentially differential heaven. So, for the last time in 14/15, The Fantasy Football Mix is here to try and help you squeeze those last few points from this season.
GW38: What to Expect?
All the anarchy of the last day of the season means that fantasy managers need to keep their wits about them when making decisions about their team. Rotation, giving youth a chance, and general indifference means that teams often don't line-out, nor perform, as they have done throughout the season.
Dave:I fancy all of the top 4 to win this weekend. I would err on the cautious side with regards to Arsenal (more on them later), but I do think it could be a decent send-off for United and City. I fancy a nice, open game at the Etihad and I think James Milnercould keep up his recent form, I think Pellegrini will play him as he continues to try and convince him to stay. From a United standpoint, van Gaal will be looking for a positive end to the season at the expense of Hull’s Premier League status and, much like the Arsenal game,Ander Herrera is the man to count on at the minute. Given it’s the last day of the season, I’ll throw is an extra bonus Tom Cleverley. The English Andrea Pirlo is in great form (last week’s disaster aside), and a visiting Burnley with nothing to play for may become lambs for the slaughter.
Joe:I'll begin with champions Chelsea. With the title wrapped up, and no records to chase, The Blues could be forgiven for taking the foot off the pedal and giving the youngsters a run out. Indeed Mourinho has played Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the last two matches. However fantasy mainstaysHazard, Terry and Ivanoviclook certain to play on Sunday and complete their ever-present seasons. Additionally, after a 3-0 drubbing at the hands of WBA, expect a points-laden backlash from Chelsea. No need to abandon ship. Across London at The Emirates, the place of the misfiringOlivier Giroud looks uncertain, especially withTheo Walcott scoring (kind of) the equaliser against United last week. The Englishman may be given the nod from the start on Sunday.
Final Day Gambles
St. Abou’s Day is here again! Rejoice! Arguably the most difficult day for FPL managers to get a full 11 out nevermind a decent points haul as managers rotate heavily. This section is going to look at some picks that may help give you the edge on a rival in your mini-leagues, or leave you institutionalised.
Dave:I have waited for this set of tips all season. The madness of the final day is here. Something crazy is going to happen, the question is where. First up is a game with final day craziness form, Arsenal usually play a rotated 11 for the final game with nothing to play for while West Brom put 5 past United a few seasons back. To the distress of many, don’t expect Ospina to play, Szczesny should get some game-time pre-FA Cup final as Fabianski did last season. Expect Tomas RosickyandJack Wilshere to make an appearance if Arsenal win against Sunderland and secure 3rd spot. Second game up for discussion is Stoke v Liverpool and my tips aren't coming from merseyside. Stoke have secured a top half finish, and for some reason I’m getting the tinglies for Dioufand/orArnautovic.As the Gerrard bandwagon finally comes to a shuddering halt, Liverpool’s struggles have been obvious. No definite forecast for a cold, windy one at Stoke on Sunday, but still a hard game at the best of times.
Joe: I really like the look of Jack Grealish this week. The spindly-legged Aston Villa starlet has repaid Tim Sherwood's faith over the past few months and Sunday, at home to Burnley, could be time the£4.3m 19 year old scores his first Premier League goal. Expect Sherwood to be unbearable afterwards. Wilfried Zahacould be another to score big on the final day. At £5.1m, the pacey United flop could exploit an open Swansea team. Finally, I really think City-Southampton could see the Saints, fresh from their own 6-1 win, being thrashed. Therefore, another Wilfrieid - this timeBony, could score at hat-full. The £8.1m Ivorian has been confined to the bench recently but, in what will probably be his last game, Pellegrini may revert to his favoured 442 formation and we could see a goalfest that saves the Saints from the Europa League.
So that's that for our final article of the season. Thanks for reading and sharing throughout the last few weeks. We hope you've enjoyed and that our recommendations have gone someway to improving your overall rank (apart from telling everyone to get Jordi Gomez last week - sorry about that!). If you're anything like us, Monday morning will be the beginning of your countdown to the site going live again. Mid-July can't come quick enough!
