As the above image from our Stats Sandbox feature shows, B. Johnson was top for 'Expected FPL Points' (xFPL) (92.40) amongst midfielders in the £4.5m-£6.5m price bracket last season. However, he was only fifth for FPL points (84) with Rodrigo (106) and Bruno G. (102) leading the way. Rice is in third with 98 FPL points and Hudson-Odoi (84) marginally outscored his teammate Gibbs-White (83.39) though the latter was ahead for xFPL (72.19 vs 83.39).
Garnacho (59) is significantly ahead of the rest for shots but the Argentinian international finds himself second for 'Expected Goals' (xG) (6.66) to B. Johnson (6.97) despite the former attempting less than half the attempts. No midfielder in the aforementioned price bracket was afforded more 'big chances' (BC) (14) than the winger.
Gibbs-White (34) and Hudson-Odoi (33) took a similar number of shots but the latter landed 17 attempts on target compared to just nine for the former. Kudus (46) also had a high shot volume but was afforded just three BC. Doku was second for shots in the box (SiB) (31) only to Garnacho (48).
Amongst the central midfielders, Bruno G. found the back of the net six times while Rodrigo (five) and Rice (four) managed just one BC between them.
Gross was the most creative midfielder with 54 attempted assists but the German international has moved to the Bundesliga. Rice and B. Johnson (eight each) are top for FPL assists while Elliott, Rodrigo, Bruno G. and Gibbs-White are all tied with seven. The Forest midfielder is top for BC created (10) and fourth for chances created (41).
Despite being second for chances created (47), Andreas managed just three assists as he created just four BC. Bailey is top for 'Expected Assists' (xA) (5.80) ahead of Gibbs-White (5.48) and B. Johnson (5.24).
As the above image from our Fixture Difficulty Ratings shows, Fulham, Forest and Newcastle's budget midfielders have the best opening schedule. Andreas' role could change with Fulham signing Smith-Rowe and needs to be monitored. Forest in particular have a great opening three fixtures which strengthens the case for both Gibbs-White and Hudson-Odoi. Bruno G. could be an option but his returns are more unpredictable and FPL managers will likely have to hold the Brazilian for a long period to reap returns.
As the above image from our Player Points Projections feature shows, the top five is dominated by Central Midfielders with Bruno G. (22.4), Mac Allister (22.1), Rice and Rodrigo (21.4) featuring prominently. Hee Chan's second half of the season was marred by injury which is why he did not show up favourably in the aforementioned stats tables. Gibbs-White (21.0) is ahead of Hudson-Odoi (18.9). Nkunku is also one FPL managers need to keep an eye on, he barely got any minutes last season but looks to be thriving under Maresca in preseason. B. Johnson does not make the top 20 with a projection of just 14.4.
