Stats comparison for Premium Assets using the Fix Comparison Matrix for the 2023/24 Fantasy Premier League season
The most expensive player in FPL history at £15.0m, Haaland, has had a full Summer off and is in no danger of limited minutes in Gameweek 1. As the above image from the Fix Comparison Matrix shows, although the Norwegian international's campaign was curtailed by injury, he still averaged 7.0 FPL points per match and was top for goals (0.9), shots (3.9), and shots on target (SoT) (1.9) amongst the premium options. With the changes to the Bonus Points System (BPS) now rewarding players who land more SoT, the increase in price for the Norwegian international makes sense.
Salah had his lowest goal return (18) and FPL points total (211) since returning to the Premier League. It is going to be a new start for the Egyptian talisman and his teammates under new manager Slot. Despite an average of 0.6 goals per game, the Egyptian had great underlying numbers, with his 3.6 shots and 1.8 SoT only bettered by Haaland. Last season he added a creative element to his game and was also joint-top for FPL assists (0.4) alongside Palmer.
As the above image from our Fixture Difficulty Ratings show, Liverpool have the best fixtures to start the season and the Egyptian international should be in FPL managers' thoughts.
Despite not starting a game for Chelsea until Gameweek 7, Palmer, finished as the top FPL points scorer for the 2023/24 campaign with 244 points, at an average of 7.2 per game. His shot volume (3.2) was excellent, and he was also joint-second for attempted assists (2.1). He is third in the comparison for SoT (1.4) which should enhance his bonus point potential as well. Palmer's preseason minutes do need to be monitored due to his involvement in the Euros with England, but he is likely to start for Chelsea regardless in Gameweek 1 due to his importance to the side.
As the below image from our Opta Player Heatmaps feature shows, he averaged 8.9 FPL points per game in home matches last season. However, it remains to be seen what role he is given under new manager Maresca.
Like Palmer, Saka, was involved with England and played a huge number of minutes over the Summer. This does mean his preseason minutes need to be monitored. The England international was fourth amongst the premium options for FPL points per game (6.5), and goals (0.5), while he was third for FPL assists (0.3). His shot volume (3.1) and SoT (1.1) rank fourth in the comparison, so he does not benefit as much from the tweak in BPS as the aforementioned three options.
Son was a regular starter under Postecoglou last season, with the South Korean international top of the comparison for minutes played (84.2). However, a large chunk of his returns came playing the centre-forward role and it remains to be seen what position he plays at the start of this coming campaign, with Spurs in the market for a striker over the Summer window. His shot volume (2.4) is the lowest in the comparison by a distance, and like Saka his 1.1 SoT per game will not give him a huge BPS edge over the others.
