FPL Gameweek 8 Algorithm Wildcard Squad

Best Algorithm Wildcard Gameweek 8 Fantasy Premier League 2024/25

Goalkeepers - £4.5m Flekken to play every week

As the above image from our Assistant Manager feature shows, instead of opting for a goalkeeper rotation, the Algorithm prefers a minimal spend in the goalkeeper position with Flekken playing every week. Fabianski is chosen as the backup keeper who is the most likely to feature at any point at just £4.0m. As the below image from our Fixture Difficulty Ratings feature shows, Brentford are ranked second for 'Defence Difficulty' over the next six Gameweeks.

Defence - Big at the back

The two top scoring defenders in FPL, Alexander-Arnold (41 points) and Gabriel (39 points) both make the Algorithm Wildcard squad. No defender has created more 'big chances' (five) than the right-back while the Brazilian international is top for 'Expected Goals' (xG) (2.00).

Digne has notched two assists already and is third for 'big chances' created (four) amongst defenders. Akanji is chosen as Man. City representation ahead of their excellent run of fixtures while Harwood-Bellis offers a cheap bench option at just £4.0m.

Midfield - The Egyptian King

Stats for Midfielders Gameweek 8 Fantasy Premier League 2024/25

As the above image from our Opta Stats Sandbox feature shows, Salah (62) trails only Palmer and Haaland (67 each) for FPL points, no midfielder has attempted more shots in the box (21) or been afforded more 'big chances' (eight) than the Egyptian international.

Meanwhile, no midfielder has scored more goals than Mbeumo (six) while only Semenyo (31) has attempted more shots than Eze (27). Rogers offers a reliable bench option when needed.

Forwards - Two Budget and Haaland

Despite two consecutive blanks, Haaland sits top amongst forwards for shots in the box (31), shots on target (23), 'big chances' (10) and xG (6.10). As the below image from our Assistant Manager feature shows, he is the optimal captain option for four of the next five Gameweeks.

Meanwhile, as the below image from our Players Points Projections feature shows, Wood and Calvert-Lewin are the top two projected forwards under £6.5m for the next six Gameweeks.

Goalkeepers - Raya in

The Algorithm prefers to go with one goalkeeper who plays every week but investing the funds in Raya over Flekken. Arsenal defensive representation is maintained at a cheaper cost with the Spanish international £0.6m cheaper than Gabriel.

Defence - Alexander-Arnold remains

Despite the spend in midfield, Alexander-Arnold remains and is a play every week option over the next five Gameweeks alongside Robinson who already has notched two assists this season. As the below image from our Player Points Projections feature shows, Robinson and Van de Ven are projected to be amongst the top six scoring budget defenders over the next six Gameweeks.

The spend is reduced in defence overall with Robinson and Van de Ven in place of Gabriel and Akanji.

Midfield - Salah out, Saka and Palmer in

Selling Salah frees up significant cash which means that Saka, Palmer and Iwobi come into the XI instead of Salah, McNeil and Eze. As the below image from our Opta Stats Sandbox feature shows, Palmer and Saka are in the top three midfielders for 'Expected FPL points' (xFPL) this season. Rogers and Mbeumo remain.

Forwards - Unchanged

The same forward line from the previous draft remains with all three forwards on penalty duties.
