With Haaland’s recent dip in form, many Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers are cashing in and exploring premium midfield options.
This article compares some of the top picks in the £8.0m-£11.0m price range to help you find the best value for your squad. Stay ahead in your FPL journey with our expert insights and strategies, and make the most of your fantasy budget!
In the Fix Comparison Matrix tool image above, the cheapest option at £8.4m is B. Fernandes, who has averaged just 4.5 FPL points per game this season. However, it’s worth noting that most of these performances were under former manager Ten Hag, and his role may change under new manager Ruben Amorim.
An average of 3.1 shots per game is the second highest in the comparison, but the Portuguese international is second bottom for shots on target (0.6) which indicates these are more long range speculative efforts. In terms of creativity, his 2.0 attempted assists per game is the lowest. However, a significant chunk of these are good quality chances as shown by the 0.6 'big chances' created. His overall 'big chance' involvement numbers (1.2) are third in the comparison (0.6 'big chances' created + 0.6 'big chances').
After a spectacular 2023/24 campaign, Foden has struggled this season. The England international got his first start of the season only in Gameweek 7, and has yet to find the back of the net this season in the league. This is underlined by his goal threat numbers, he has averaged just 1.9 shots and 0.1 shots on target per game.
In terms of creativity, he is fourth with 2.1 chances created and bottom for 'big chances' created (0.5). Given Man. City's current malaise, investing in Foden does not appear to be prudent.
Son has missed three games through injury, but when he has started he has averaged a healthy 5.9 FPL points per game. With 0.4 goals and 0.4 assists per game, he has multiple routes to points in his locker. However, his shot volume of just 2.0 shots per game is fourth in the comparison. Both Saka and Palmer (1.2 each) have landed more shots on target than his 1.0 per game.
The South Korean international's creativity numbers are decent, he averages 2.5 attempted assists (third) and 0.8 'big chances' created (second), but the fact that he is being afforded just 0.3 'big chances' per game (fourth) is a worrying sign.
Saka has been Arsenal's talisman, with an impressive 6.7 FPL points per game. But he has relied more on assists (seven) than goals (three) this season. However, his shot volume of 3.1 shots (second) and 1.2 shots on target (first) indicates that the goals will come.
He is the top midfielder for creativity, with 2.8 attempted assists and 1.4 'big chances' created per game. However, the average of 0.4 'big chances' per game indicates that the goal scoring opportunities he is being afforded are not of great quality. Nevertheless, he is top for overall 'big chance' involvement (1.4 'big chances' created + 0.4 'big chances') and is a great option if he is passed fit after the international break.
Palmer has picked up where he left off last season with 7.6 FPL points per game under Maresca. The England international is top of the comparison for goals (0.6), shots (3.3) and shots on target (1.2). He is also top for 'big chances', which indicates that his goal return is no fluke.
His creativity numbers are also excellent, he is second for attempted assists (2.6) and 'big chances' created (0.8) which underlines his multiple routes to points.
As the above image from our Fixture Difficulty Ratings shows, Chelsea are rated second for 'Attack Difficulty' over the next six Gameweeks which puts Palmer right at the top of the pile.
Man. Utd.'s fixtures are mixed, they have games against Ipswich, Everton, Forest and Bournemouth. However, this is along with two difficult away trips to Arsenal and Man. City, which sees them placed 16th for 'Attack Difficulty'.
Man. City's run of games includes Spurs, Liverpool, Man. Utd. and Villa over the next six, which means the reigning Champions are ranked as low as 19th.
Spurs travel to Man. City right after the international break and also play Chelsea and Liverpool over the next six Gameweeks. This run of games sees the North London side ranked 15th.
Their North London rivals Arsenal are ranked 12th, they play Forest, Man. Utd. and Everton at the Emirates while the trips to West Ham, Fulham and Palace also look attractive.
As the above image from our Player Points Projections feature shows, Palmer (40.5) looks to be the standout pick in the £8.0-£11.0m price bracket amongst midfielders. Saka (33.3) is behind by some distance, while the B. Fernandes (20.7) projections have to be taken with a pinch of salt given the managerial change at Man. Utd.
De Bruyne (30.5) is an interesting one if he can regain full fitness after the international break, while Foden's (9.3) numbers are affected by his fitness doubts.
