Gameweek 13 FPL Differential Focus

22 Nov. 2023

If you are the sort of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) manager who enjoys going against the grain – or takes satisfaction from finding hidden gems before the crowd – then lowly selected players (differentials) can often provide value and offer a source of points which won’t be shared by many other managers. As long as the player picks are justifiable, differentials can give you an edge over your mini-league rivals.

In this article we look ahead to Gameweek 13 and find players from each position who are currently selected by less than 10% of managers, but could reward their owners in the upcoming Gameweeks.

DEF: Tim Ream

  • Cost: £4.5m
  • Selected by: 1.6%
  • Next Fixture: WOL (h)

GW12 defenders projections

Every so often we get one of those Gameweeks where it seems all the popular players face difficult opposition, and Gameweek 13 seems to fit that criteria.

If you are looking for a one-week punt on a defender, then Tim Ream (£4.5m) could be the best of a bad bunch. Fulham continues to look decent defensively, having only conceded 151 shots so far this campaign (ranked 7th best), and they are particularly challenging to attacking opposition when playing at Craven Cottage.

They face a Wolves side who sit somewhere just below the middle of the table in terms of underlying attacking threat – ranked 13th for xG (15.33) for example – and who could be missing the creativity of Pedro Neto (£5.6m).

It’s not the most exciting recommendation, but the Algorithm rates Ream as the 2nd best defensive option this Gameweek. Check out Player Points Projections for more recommendations.

MID: James Ward-Prowse

  • Cost: £6.1m
  • Selected by: 9.7%
  • Next Fixture: BUR (a)

Almost-no-longer-a-differential James Ward Prowse (£6.1m) hit the ground running when he joined West Ham, and for the FPL managers who took a chance on him, he rewarded them greatly by returning in back-to-back appearances between Gameweeks 2 and 5.

After this, his returns dried up as West Ham’s fortunes turned awry, The Hammers only registering one win between Gameweeks 5 and 11. But an excellent performance against Nottingham Forest saw the West Ham midfielder bag two assists and his first double-digit haul of the season.

He faces a Burnley side who have conceded 30 goals already and have registered no clean sheets this season. Ward Prowse is ranked 4th for xA (3.68) and joint-third for Big Chances Created according to Opta Player Heatmaps.

FWD: Dominic Solanke

  • Cost: £6.4m
  • Selected by: 3.7%
  • Next Fixture: SHU (a)

Solanke

We keep suggesting him, and he keeps returning!

Dominic Solanke (£6.4m) is now the fourth top scoring forward in the game. While his two goals against Newcastle were possibly not on the cards, the underlying statistics have been there for all to see.

Solanke is ranked third for shots in the box (30) and is about to face a team who is ranked bottom for goals conceded (31), as well as shots conceded (225). But it is not just this fixture which looks good for Solanke; Bournemouth are about to embark on a great run of fixtures leading all the way to Gameweek 19.
