Haaland opened his account for the new season with a goal against Chelsea, the Golden Boot winner of the past two seasons will be looking to add to his goal tally when newly promoted Ipswich visit the Etihad Stadium. Despite playing only 2556 minutes last season, he was top for shots on target (59), 'big chances' (54) and 'Expected Goals' (xG) (29.44) amongst all players.
Man. City were top for goals scored (96) last season, while only Liverpool (126) and Newcastle (134) created more 'big chances' than their 124. Their visitors Ipswich had the seventh best defensive record in the Championship with 57 goals conceded and gave up more 'big chances' (six) than any other side in Gameweek 1. Our Predicted Points & Stats tool currently projects a point score of 9.4 for Haaland.
Salah continued his streak of returning in every opening game of the season with a goal and assist against Ipswich, the Egyptian international had an underwhelming season last year by his standards with 18 goals but as the below image from our Opta Stats Sandbox feature shows, he was still top amongst midfielders for shots (114), shots in the box (92), 'big chances' (30) and xG (21.38). He was also top for 'big chances' created (23).
Liverpool scored 86 goals last season with only Arsenal (91) and Man. City (124) being more prolific. No side registered a higher xG total (91.35) than the Merseyside outfit. Their visitors Brentford conceded 65 goals last season (13th) and kept only seven clean sheets. The London side were ranked sixth for 'Expected Goals Conceded' (xGC) (57.65). Our Predicted Points & Stats tool currently projects a point score of 6.9 for Salah.
Son did not register any FPL returns against Leicester in Gameweek 1 but it is worth remembering that the South Korean was Spurs' top goal scorer last season with 17 goals and also their main creator with 10 assists. No Spurs’ player was afforded more 'big chances' than his 20 and he was also top for xG (12.69). As the below image from our Opta Player Heatmaps feature shows, he averaged 5.8 FPL points per game in home matches last season.
Spurs scored 38 goals in home games last season (seventh) and were ranked fifth for shots (324). Their visitors Everton conceded 33 goals on their travels last season (seventh) and kept just four clean sheets. The Toffees were ranked 12th for xGC (36.55) in away games. Our Predicted Points & Stats tool currently projects a point score of 4.8 for Son.
