Expected FPL Stats - Last Six Gameweeks

As the below image from our Opta Stats Sandbox feature shows, Watkins (33.12) is top amongst Villa players for Expected FPL points (xFPL) over the last six Gameweeks.

The England international started every game for the Midlands side over this period, with Duran suspended for two games and subsequently departing for the Saudi League over the January window.

Tielemans (20.94) and Konsa (20.85) are some way off and have less FPL points (18 and 15) combined than Watkins (36) over the aforementioned period.

Konsa and Martinez are the only two players to have played every minute with Rogers missing a game due to yellow card accumulation.

What is xFPL?

xFPL is calculated primarily using expected goals (xG), assists (xA), which combine as Fantasy Premier League (FPL) involvements (xG + xA = xI), as well as expected clean sheets (xCS). These numbers are a result of underlying statistics (i.e. shot type and location will give a probability of scoring = xG). xFPL is the combination of these statistics and factors in appearance and bonus points to give an overall expected FPL point score.

The Attacking Options - Are Rogers and Watkins the Obvious Picks?

As the below image from our Opta Stats Sandbox feature shows, Watkins is significantly ahead of the rest for shots in the box (13), 'big chances' (five) and 'Expected Goals' (xG) (2.65). He also took the spot kick which Villa were awarded against Brighton. The England international is also top for FPL assists (two) and attempted assists (seven).

Rogers remains a popular FPL asset, but his underlying stats are concerning. Over the last six Gameweeks, the 22-year-old has managed just three shots in the box and has not been granted a single 'big chance'. While he has provided two FPL assists, he has created only four chances.

Bailey, meanwhile, has played just 282 minutes in that period, and with Rashford and Asensio now in the squad, it’s unclear how Villa’s attack will shape up. Both new signings could reduce the game time of Rogers and Bailey, making their minutes uncertain for the double.

Tielemans’ game time (533 minutes) is solid, but his attacking output has been limited, with just six shots in the box and five attempted assists.

The Defence - Are Konsa and Martinez the Only Nailed Options?

As the below image from our Opta Stats Sandbox feature shows, Digne has created five chances over the last six matches but only played 45 minutes against Wolves and Arsenal. Only Alexander-Arnold (13) has created more 'big chances' (11) amongst defenders this season, and the Frenchman could be a shrewd pick if he can get consistent minutes.

Cash, Torres and Mings are all injury doubts at the time of writing, which leaves Konsa as the only nailed option but new signing Disasi could go straight into the first team given their injuries.

The Upcoming Schedule - Does it Warrant Investment?

As the below image from our Fixture Difficulty Ratings shows, after their Double in Gameweek 25, Villa play Chelsea, Palace and Brentford before a possible blank in Gameweek 29.

Fixture Difficulty Ratings for Gameweek 25-30

Isak, who is a likely makeweight for Watkins has Man. City away, Forest at home, Liverpool away and West Ham away over the same spell.

The fixture run is better for Watkins on paper, but with Villa's next Champions League round sandwiched either side of the Brentford fixture, there is some concerns about his minutes being managed.
