Expected FPL Points Review - A look at the stats

As the below image shows, Salah tops the Custom Stats xFPL table for Gameweek 28 with a score of 17.8. No player created more chances (six) than the Egyptian international and he was also joint-top for shots inside the box (four) and 'big chances' (three).

Fantasy Premier League Stats Gameweek 28

I. Sarr was afforded two 'big chances' and attempted three shots in the box, the Senegalese international also created a 'big chance' and registered an xFPL score of 11.3.

Evanilson impressed on his return to the Bournemouth starting lineup, the 25-year-old attempted three shots in the box, one of which was a 'big chance' en route to an xFPL score of 7.8.

FPL managers might be tempted to keep Alexander-Arnold through his blank in Gameweek 29, the right-back attempted five shots and created two assists, leading to an xFPL score of 7.5.

Darwin was joint-top alongside Salah for 'big chances' (three), the Uruguayan international took four shots in the box and notched an xFPL score of 8.4.

What is xFPL?

xFPL is calculated primarily using expected goals (xG), assists (xA), which combine as Fantasy Premier League (FPL) involvements (xG + xA = xI), as well as expected clean sheets (xCS). These numbers are a result of underlying statistics (i.e. shot type and location will give a probability of scoring = xG). xFPL is the combination of these statistics and factors in appearance and bonus points to give an overall expected FPL point score.

Early FPL Transfer Activity Analysed - Which players are FPL managers buying and selling?

As shown in the below image from our Transfer Analytics feature, B. Fernandes is currently the most popular transfer ahead of Gameweek 29 with over 175,000 FPL managers bringing him in at the time of writing.

Fantasy Premier Transfer Activity Gameweek 29

Forest assets Wood and Aina are popular ahead of their fixture against Ipswich in Gameweek 29, while penalty takers Kluivert and João Pedro round off the top five transfers in.

Hall, Cunha, Isak and Mateta will not feature in Gameweek 29, which explains why they are being transferred out. Palmer is the only player in the Top 10 transfers out who is available for Gameweek 29, FPL managers have lost patience with the England international failing to find the back of the net since Gameweek 29.

A look at the Top 10 Forward transfer combinations shows that Wood and Haaland are the most popular Forward picks with the duo accounting for nine of the top 10. Cunha, Gakpo, Isak, Watkins and Mateta are the players making way.

Top 10 forwards' FPL transfer combinations

The Top 10 Midfield transfer combinations is a bit more scattered, with Palmer to B. Fernandes (12.6%) by far the most popular combination. Kluivert, Bowen, Hudson-Odoi and Gibbs-White are some of the other players being bought, while Rogers, O. Dango and even Salah are being sold.

The Top 10 Defender transfer combinations are also quite spread out with no player appearing in more than two combinations. Aït-Nouri and Gvardiol are the most popular picks with Forest defenders Murillo, Milenković and Aina also featuring.

Best Forest Midfielder - Gibbs-White vs Hudson-Odoi vs Elanga

With Forest travelling to a struggling Ipswich side in Gameweek 29, their midfield assets are popular acquisitions.

The numbers of their three most popular midfielders are compared over the last six Gameweeks using the Fix Comparison Matrix as shown below. Averages are used since Hudson-Odoi only returned to the Forest starting lineup in Gameweek 26.

Player Comparison Forest midfielders

Morgan Gibbs-White

A consistent minutes monster, Gibbs-White tops the comparison for FPL points (6.0), assists (0.8) and shots while he is also excellent for bonus points potential. However, it is worth noting that despite having the highest number of shots (2.3), he has landed just 0.3 attempts on target per game.

Callum Hudson-Odoi

Hudson-Odoi has scored two goals in his last three matches and is currently the flavour of the week. Despite having the lowest shot volume (1.5), he has landed the most attempts on target (1.3). However, it is worrying to note that he has not had a single 'big chance' involvement over his last four appearances.

Anthony Elanga

Elanga has the lowest points per game (4.2) in the comparison with all of his three attacking returns coming in the 7-0 thrashing of Brighton. The winger has relied primarily on creativity for his output, with just three goals across the season, and this shows in his numbers.

He tops the comparison for attempted assists and it is worth noting that he is top for 'big chance' involvements as well (0.3 'big chances' and 0.3 'big chances created') which heightens his appeal.

Based on the data, the three midfield options are closely matched. However, given his current form and the extra points for goals, Hudson-Odoi appears to be the strongest choice.
