Best Midfield Picks – Expected FPL Points Comparison

As shown in our Opta Stats Sandbox image below, Salah is top for xFPL (273.16) amongst midfielders this season. The Egyptian international is over 80 xFPL points clear of Palmer (192.36) in second, which just shows that he is really in a league of his own.

No midfielder has taken more shots (106), landed more attempts on target (55), been afforded more 'big chances' (36) or racked up a higher 'Expected Goals' (xG) tally (23.05) than the 32-year-old.

Stats for Midfielders Fantasy Premier League 2024/25

After a strong first half of the season, Palmer's form has tailed off with just two goals and an assist after Gameweek 19. The England international has been the most creative player in the division with 70 attempted assists, though Saka (20) and Salah (21) beat him (16) for 'big chances' created.

Semenyo (102) rivals Salah for shots (106) but has scored just seven goals from 33 attempts on target.

It is worth mentioning that only five midfielders have racked up an xG tally of greater than 10 so far - Salah (23.05), Palmer (14.40), Semenyo (12.52), Mbeumo (10.55) and Kluivert (10.46).

The Fix Comparison Matrix below provides a closer look at the per-game averages of top performers—excluding Salah.

Midfielders Comparison for Fantasy Premier League 2024/25

Cole Palmer

Palmer missed the Gameweek 29 fixture against Arsenal with an injury, but the England international is likely to be back for Chelsea after the international break. Palmer's dip in form has coincided with the injury to N. Jackson, who has been absent since Gameweek 25. The Senegalese forward is also expected back for the Blues once the league resumes.

Palmer is top for goals (0.5), shots on target (1.5) and 'big chances' (0.6) while no midfielder has created more chances (70).

Bryan Mbeumo

The third-highest scoring midfielder in FPL with 179 points, Mbeumo has played nearly every minute for Brentford this season and has been one of their most reliable performers with 15 goals and six assists.

Fixture Difficulty Ratings Gameweek 30-38 for the 2024/25 season

The Cameroon international has averaged a comparison-topping 0.5 goals and 0.6 'big chances' per game. However, as the above image from our Fixture Difficulty Ratings shows, Brentford are ranked 16th for 'Attack Difficulty' over the remainder of the season which means it might be time to look elsewhere.

Bruno Fernandes

B. Fernandes has been Man. Utd.'s only consistent performer over the 2024/25 season, the Portuguese international has 45 more FPL points (152) than their next best FPL asset Amad (107) and has contributed eight goals and 11 assists this campaign.

Penalties have played a big part in B. Fernandes' output, his shot volume of 1.1 shots in the box and 0.9 shots on target are the lowest in the comparison while only Saka (0.3) has been afforded fewer 'big chances' (0.5).

His 2.4 attempted assists per game is third in the comparison, he is also third for 'big chances' created (0.5).

Justin Kluivert

The cheapest midfield asset in the comparison, Kluivert has enjoyed a strong second half of the season with six goals and four assists in 10 appearances.

The underlying numbers are mixed, the Dutchman is fourth for shots in the box (1.4) and shots on target (1.0) with only the aforementioned B. Fernandes faring worse. However, with penalty duties in his locker, the number of 'big chances' (0.6) has still been quite healthy.

It is also worth mentioning that his creativity numbers are the lowest in the comparison with just 1.5 attempted assists per game and 0.2 'big chances' created.

Bukayo Saka

Saka has missed a large chunk of the campaign due to injury but the England international could be back after the international break and provide a big differential for FPL managers.

The winger tops the comparison for FPL points per game (6.7), FPL assists (0.7), shots inside the box (2.4), attempted assists (2.6) and 'big chances' created (1.3), which just underlines his quality and multiple routes to points.

What do the Projections Say?

As the below image from our Predicted Points & Stats tool shows, Salah (64.1) is in a league of his own with 64.1 projected points for the remainder of the season.

Midfielder Projections Fantasy Premier League 2024/25

Palmer (42.0) is in second with J. Murphy (39.4) a surprise inclusion in third. The absence of Gordon through injury should mean more minutes for the winger.

Mbeumo (39.3) and Kluivert (38.5) round off the top five, despite difficult fixtures for the former.

B. Fernandes (34.1) does not make the top 10 with the next three fixtures for Man. Utd. against Forest, Man. City and Newcastle particularly off-putting.
