FPL Gameweek 31: 5 Differentials to Boost Your Rank

Fantasy Premier League is back after a long break for Gameweek 30, where plenty of managers opted to activate their second Wildcard. However, with injuries affecting key players like Gabriel and potentially Isak, many will already be on the lookout for lesser-owned replacements.

We've picked out five overlooked differentials—each with under 10% ownership—that could give you an edge. But before we reveal the names, here’s a quick look at the criteria we’ve used to select them:

  • 3 attacking options (midfielders or forwards)
  • 2 defensive picks (goalkeeper or defenders)
  • All players selected have less than 10% ownership

Ready to discover the hidden gems that could transform your team’s fortunes? Let’s get started!

Anthony Gordon

  • Position: Midfielder
  • Cost: £7.4m
  • Projected Points: 5.2

Anthony Gordon might not have had a standout season by his own standards, but he has still delivered a respectable 113 FPL points from 6 goals and 6 assists. He remains Newcastle’s second-highest goalscorer behind Isak (20), yet his underlying stats suggest he’s been unlucky not to have returned more.

Newcastle players ranked by goals scored

Gordon has registered 54 shots, with 18 on target, as shown in the Opta Stats Sandbox, and boasts an expected goals (xG) total of 9.5. A trip to struggling Leicester could be the perfect chance for him to convert that potential into points.

However, managers should monitor his recent injury concern. Eddie Howe confirmed that Gordon suffered bad bruising, but he is expected to be available for the Leicester game.

Looking ahead, Newcastle’s double gameweek in GW32 (Manchester United & Crystal Palace) adds to Gordon’s appeal. If you’re after a cheaper alternative, Jacob Murphy (£5.0m) could be worth considering at £2.4m less.

Gordon vs Murphy FPL stats comparison

Murphy has outperformed Gordon in goals per 90 minutes and creative stats, including expected assists (xA) and big chances created. However, Gordon remains the stronger goal threat, as highlighted in the Opta Heatmaps comparison per 90 minutes.

With just 8.3% ownership, Gordon is a strong differential option—provided he’s fit in time for Leicester.

Dominic Solanke

  • Position: Forward
  • Cost: £7.3m
  • Projected Points: 5.2

Dominic Solanke has shown flashes of the form that convinced Spurs to make him their marquee summer signing, but injuries have disrupted his rhythm. Despite this, he has still managed 7 goals and 5 assists, earning 87 FPL points in 20 games. That’s an average of 4.35 points per game—the third-highest at Spurs behind Maddison (4.37) and Son (4.73).

Premier League fixtures ranked by attacking difficulty

Spurs have a favourable run of fixtures, ranking third for attacking difficulty in the next three gameweeks, according to the Fixture Difficulty Rating tool. However, with double gameweeks yet to be announced, there may be better long-term options, especially if they fall in Gameweek 33.

That said, Solanke remains an intriguing short-term punt, particularly for Spurs' upcoming match against Southampton, who have conceded an alarming 2.37 goals per game this season. His projected points for Gameweek 31 stand at 5.2, making him the fourth-highest option, as per the Predicted Points & Stats tool.

It's also worth noting that this article was written before Solanke’s match against Chelsea, so his performance there could impact his appeal.

With just 4.8% ownership, Solanke offers differential potential for managers looking to climb the ranks.

Evanilson

  • Position: Forward
  • Cost: £5.7m
  • Projected Points: 4.1

Bournemouth’s Evanilson has gone somewhat unnoticed this season, possibly due to injury absences or the spotlight being on teammates like Kluivert. However, he has still managed an impressive 97 points from 7 goals and 4 assists.

Priced at just £5.7m with only 3.8% ownership, he offers excellent value for money. Even in Bournemouth’s disappointing home loss to Ipswich, Evanilson found the net and picked up two bonus points.

His underlying stats are encouraging, with an xG of 8.99 suggesting he could have scored even more this season. Up next is a promising fixture against West Ham, where he is projected to score 4.1 points.

West Ham vs Bournemouth FPL stats for the last 5 games

Looking at Bournemouth’s last five matches in the Match Centre, Evanilson leads for goals (2), expected goals (2.2), and shots on target (5), despite missing one game entirely and playing just 13 minutes in another.

With FPL managers monitoring Isak’s injury situation, Evanilson could be the perfect low-owned differential to give your team an edge.

Tino Livramento

  • Position: Defender
  • Cost: £4.5m
  • Projected Points: 3.4

Newcastle’s Tino Livramento has emerged as a strong budget differential, owned by just 3.8% of FPL managers. Despite his low price, he has already racked up 67 points this season, including 6 clean sheets.

Premier League teams ranked by clean sheet odds for the next two gameweeks

His next fixture against Leicester presents a good opportunity to add to that tally, with Newcastle given a 40% chance of a clean sheet, according to the Predicted Points & Stats tool. This is followed by a double gameweek against Manchester United (H) and Crystal Palace (H), where Newcastle’s clean sheet probability rises to 60%.

At just £4.5m, Livramento is an affordable squad enabler with solid clean sheet potential in the next two gameweeks.

Jakub Kiwior

  • Position: Defender
  • Cost: £4.8m
  • Projected Points: 4.1

Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior is an interesting budget differential, owned by just 0.2% of FPL managers. With both Gabriel and Timber picking up injuries in the midweek game against Fulham, Kiwior looks set to start. However, it’s worth waiting for Arteta’s press conference to confirm the extent of their absences.

Premier League clubs ranked by goals conceded

Arsenal boast the league’s best defensive record, conceding the fewest goals (25) and recording the lowest expected goals conceded (xGC) at 29.73, highlighting their defensive solidity, as shown in the Opta Stats Sandbox.

Although Kiwior has played just 398 minutes this season, he could offer great value if he secures a starting role. Arsenal’s next fixture against Everton comes with a 40% chance of a clean sheet, and they still have a double gameweek to be scheduled.

At £4.8m, Kiwior could be a smart way to free up funds while offering potential returns in a strong defensive setup.

Conclusion: Calculated Risks for FPL Success

These five differentials offer a mix of attacking threat and defensive stability, all with the potential to significantly boost your FPL rank. From the explosive potential of Gordon and Solanke to the budget-friendly options of Livramento and Kiwior, there's something for every FPL strategy.

Livramento, in particular, stands out as a low-cost defender with the potential for high returns, especially considering Newcastle's upcoming fixtures. His low ownership makes him an excellent differential pick for managers looking to climb the ranks.

Remember to stay updated on team news and press conferences, particularly regarding the injury situations of Gordon and Arsenal's defenders. By making informed decisions and taking calculated risks, you could find yourself climbing the ranks in Gameweek 31 and beyond.
