Expected FPL Points Review - A look at the stats

As the below image shows, J. Murphy tops the Custom Stats xFPL table for Gameweek 31 with a score of 12.5. The 30-year-old scored from both his attempts, which were classified as 'big chances' by Opta.

Evanilson scored both of Bournemouth's goals making it three in the last two, the forward attempted three shots in the box and landed two attempts on target leading to an xFPL score of 11.8.

Hudson-Odoi attempted more assists (six) than any other player, the midfielder also took two shots in the box. But he had no 'big chance' involvements overall which meant a low xFPL score of 3.5.

No player was afforded more 'big chances' (three) than Strand Larsen, the Norwegian international scored one of his three shots in the box and notched an xFPL score of 7.8.

Aït-Nouri led the way for shots in the box (four) and was second for attempted assists (five) as well. The Algerian international's owners were lucky to get only two FPL points as his xFPL score of 8.9 shows.

Rogers reminded FPL managers of his quality prior to Villa's double in Gameweek 33, the England international was joint-top amongst their players for shots in the box (three). The midfielder was afforded two 'big chances', with only Barnes (9.8), Evanilson (11.8) and J. Murphy (12.5) racking up a higher xFPL score than his 9.6.

What is xFPL?

xFPL is calculated primarily using expected goals (xG), assists (xA), which combine as Fantasy Premier League (FPL) involvements (xG + xA = xI), as well as expected clean sheets (xCS). These numbers are a result of underlying statistics (i.e. shot type and location will give a probability of scoring = xG). xFPL is the combination of these statistics and factors in appearance and bonus points to give an overall expected FPL point score.

Early FPL Transfer Activity Analysed - Which players are FPL managers buying and selling?

As shown in the below image from our Transfer Analytics feature, Mateta is the most transferred in player this week with over 150,000 FPL managers bringing him in at the time of writing.

Fantasy Premier Transfer Activity Gameweek 32

Rogers' nine-point FPL haul has seen him transferred in by nearly 150,000 FPL managers, while the Double Gameweek duo of J. Murphy and Muñoz are also popular.

Meanwhile, the injured quartet of Kluivert, Aina, Gabriel and Wood have seen significant sales, while Guehi who is suspended for Gameweek 32 is also on the chopping block.

A look at the Top 10 Forward transfer combinations shows that Wood to Mateta (27.7%) is the most popular transfer combination across all positions. The Frenchman occupies six of the top 10 combinations with Marmoush, Isak and Evanilson the other forwards being bought.

As the below image from the Top 10 Midfield transfer combinations shows, the transfers are more scattered with Rogers, J. Murphy, Saka, Eze and I. Sarr all popular. Selling Kluivert appears to be the priority with the Dutchman missing both league games for Bournemouth after the international break.

Top 10 midfield FPL transfer combinations

The Top 10 Defender transfer combinations are quite scattered as well, with Gabriel to Saliba (10.4%) the most popular transfer. Muñoz, Milenković and Livramento are the other defenders being bought with Kerkez, Mykolenko, Guehi and the injured Aina making way.

Best Palace Midfielder - Eze vs I. Sarr

Palace have consecutive doubles over the next two Gameweeks and with that in mind, it is crucial to pick the right midfield asset from the Eagles.

Points Comparison Eze vs Sarr

As the above image from our Player Heatmaps feature shows, Eze (442) and I. Sarr (431) have played similar minutes over the last five Gameweeks and the latter has outscored the England international by 11 points (22 vs 33).

Stats Comparison Eze vs Sarr

As the above image shows, I. Sarr has found the back of the net three times over the last five Gameweeks while Eze has only scored twice all season.

Eze has significantly higher shot volume (18 vs seven) but has nearly half the 'Expected Goals' (xG) tally of the Senegalese international (1.45 vs 2.30) which indicates that I. Sarr is getting better quality chances.

Surprisingly, I. Sarr is ahead for creativity as well, with more attempted assists (five to eight) and a higher 'Expected Assists' (xA) tally (1.15 vs 1.50).

FPL managers have to also consider the price difference, with Eze costing £1.1 more than I. Sarr. From the above analysis, despite the two assists for Eze in their most recent fixture, I. Sarr looks like the better pick considering the money saved.
