The Attack

As the above image shows, Maddison tops the Stats Sandbox for Spurs for FPL points (29) and xFPL (23.15). The London side’s new signing has taken to life at Spurs like a duck to water with two goals and as many FPL assists in four matches. No Spurs player has taken more shots (12) or attempted more assists (10) than the England International. Only Sarr (1.72) has a higher ‘Expected Goals’ (xG) than his 1.37 while only Son (1.19) has registered higher ‘Expected Assists’ (xA) then his 1.06.

Son has been their top scorer so far with three goals but all of these came in their latest fixture against Burnley when the South Korean was fielded in an out-of-position number Nine role. Three of his four shots on target also arrived in this game and he was previously ineffective on the wing earlier with Richarlison playing up top. His creativity numbers were still good though, while he was on the wing in previous matches he attempted nine assists. It remains to be seen whether Postecoglou continues to field with the South Korean in a centre-forward role but it is highly likely given the impressive performance against Burnley.

Kulusevski has started all of Spurs matches so far and has attempted six assists however his xi of 0.33 indicates that these were not high quality chances and its xg of 0 .72 from 7 shots is also quite low despite him finding the back of the net already. Richardson’s numbers are also quite poor given that the Brazilian was per centre forward for three games he managed only four shots landed just 2 on target and attempted just to assist with a total xfpl score of Justice 8.94.

Managers looking for a budget enabler in midfield should turn their eyes towards Sarr he is top amongst Spurs’ assets for xG (1.72) with only Madison taking more shots than his 10. He has also attempted four assists and is fourth amongst Spurs players for xFPL (18.66).

The Defence

Postecoglou likes his full-backs to invert in midfield and as a result both Udogie and Porro have been posting impressive numbers, the left-back has already notched two assists in Spurs’ four matches and is fifth amongst defenders for xA (0.91). His team-mate Porro has featured for just 268 minutes but has already attempted seven shots and created four chances with his xA of 1.08 trailing only Son (1.19).

Romero is also an option with two goals and an xG of 0.55 but it is worth mentioning that he has scored from two of just three attempts, so these returns might not be sustainable in the long term. Givens Spurs’ tactics, both full-backs appear to be better options than the Argentinian International/

The Fixtures

Analyse team’s upcoming fixtures.

As the above image shows, Spurs are ranked third on the Fixture Planner for the next five Gameweeks with games against Sheff. Utd, Luton and Fulham looking prime for points at both ends of the pitch. However, after the plum home fixture against Sheff. Utd. is out of the way in Gameweek 5, they play Arsenal and Liverpool in the subsequent Gameweeks which might prove to be stern tests. However, Spurs seem to be playing free-flowin,g attacking football and have scored at least two goals in each of their games so far. Both games against the top sides could be high scoring and investment in at least one of the attacking assets is highly recommended.

What do the Projections Say?

gw5fixspurs3

Use predictive FPL statistics to increase your Gameweek points.

As the above image shows, Maddison (28.4) and Son (27.5) are ranked fourth and sixth amongst midfielders by the Fix Algorithm over the next six Gameweeks, managers looking to shift their Man. Utd. midfield assets should possibly consider the Spurs duo but those holding Arsenal players perhaps should think otherwise with Saka, Ødegaard and Martinelli also projected to score favourably.

The Algorithm is not bullish on Spurs’ defence, Udogie (21.0) is the only Spurs defensive asset to make it to the top 20 projected defenders over the next six Gameweeks.
