FPL Gameweek 6: Which Players to Target?

Expected FPL Points Review - A look at the Stats

Fantasy Premier League Stats Gameweek 5

Luis Díaz tops the Custom Stats xFPL Table for Gameweek 5 with a score of 11.6. The Colombian international took four shots, all of which were on target and was afforded three 'big chances'.

No player took more shots than Haaland (six), however Arsenal limited the Norwegian international to just two 'big chances' which meant a relatively low xFPL score of 7.7.

Son was the weekend's most creative player with seven attempted assists. The South Korean international's goal threat was limited as he took just one shot, but the fact that two of the seven chances created were classified as 'big chances' meant a healthy xFPL score of 8.3.

Solanke looks to be settling in at Spurs, no player was afforded more 'big chances' (four), he tested the keeper with three of his four attempts and notched an xFPL score of 10.5.

Salah was a popular captaincy option but despite four shots inside the box and six attempted assists, he had no 'big chance' involvements which meant a low xFPL score of 5.8.

What is xFPL?

xFPL is calculated primarily using expected goals (xG), assists (xA), which combine as Fantasy Premier League (FPL) involvements (xG + xA = xI), as well as expected clean sheets (xCS). These numbers are a result of underlying statistics (i.e. shot type and location will give a probability of scoring = xG). xFPL is the combination of these statistics and factors in appearance and bonus points to give an overall expected FPL point score.

Early FPL Transfer Activity Analysed - Which Players are FPL managers buying and selling?

As the below image from our Transfer Analytics feature shows, Luis Díaz is the most popular transfer in for Gameweek 6 so far with nearly 500,000 FPL managers bringing him in already.

Fantasy Premier Transfer Activity Gameweek 6

Gabriel, Mbeumo and N. Jackson all found the back of the net in Gameweek 5 and the trio have seen nearly a million transfers in combined. Diogo J. Isak, João Pedro and Gordon are being sold in droves with FPL managers finally losing patience after consecutive blanks.

Up top, João Pedro and Isak account for the entire top 10 forward transfer combinations with N. Jackson, Calvert-Lewin and Havertz the primary beneficiaries.

In midfield, the transfer outs are more scattered with Diogo J., Eze, M. Salah and Gordon all making way with Mbeumo, Saka and Luis Díaz coming in.

In defence, nine of the top 10 defender transfer combinations in involve Gabriel with Robertson, Gvardiol, Porro, Robinson and Lewis being sold.

Salah vs Luis Díaz - Is Salah worth the extra cash?

Fantasy Premier League Points Comparison Salah vs Diaz

As the above image from our Opta Player Heatmaps feature shows, Salah and Luis Díaz have both started all five matches for their respective sides over the first five Gameweeks with the latter outscoring the Egyptian King by two FPL points (49 vs 51). However, it is worth looking at the minutes played, Luis Díaz has been subbed off early in each match with Salah playing siginificantly more (443 vs 361).

Fantasy Premier League Stats Comparison Salah vs Diaz

As the Stats above show, Luis Díaz has scored more goals (three vs five) and registered a higher 'Expected Goals' (xG) tally than Salah (2.44 vs 3.75). However, the Egyptian international has taken more shots in the box (16 vs 11) and created more chances (12 vs eight).

Salah appears to be the better option due to more security of minutes and better underlying data but the price saving is significant. Luis Díaz will always have the threat of Gakpo looming but with nearly £5m saved, that extra cash can go a long way.
