If you are the sort of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) manager who enjoys going against the grain – or takes satisfaction from finding hidden gems before the crowd – then lowly selected players (differentials) can often provide value and offer a source of points which won’t be shared by many other managers. As long as the player picks are justifiable, differentials can give you an edge over your mini-league rivals.

In this article we look ahead to Gameweek 8 and find players from each position who are currently selected by less than 10% of managers, but could reward their owners in the upcoming Gameweeks.
If you are in the market for a cheap enabler, or perhaps looking to replace a flagged defender, then the Algorithm is keen to recommend Tim Ream (£4.5m) as a nice differential option this Gameweek.

According to the Player Points Projections tool, Ream is 7th best for predicted points in Gameweek 8 and the top-ranked defender in the game. With a home fixture against Sheffield United, a clean sheet could be on the cards. It is also worth noting that Fulham is ranked joint-first for clean sheets (3) so far this season, and seventh for fewest shots conceded (87).
The fixtures after Gameweek 8 become a bit of a struggle, but at £4.5m, Ream could be a great budget enabler, with nailed minutes, who can sit on the bench for the more difficult fixtures.
Ange Postecoglou has worked wonders at Spurs and there has never been a better time to triple-up on their players, with a string of decent fixtures on the horizon starting with newly promoted Luton Town.
James Maddison (£8.0m) and Son Heung-min (£9.3) are the most popular choices at over 30% and 20% ownership, respectively. But if you want to free up some budget whilst still having representation from the Spurs attack, then Richarlison (£6.7m) may be the answer.
With 3 goal involvements in his last 111 minutes of football, the Brazilian attacker seems to have regained his confidence after a lacklustre period in his career. According to the Opta Player Heatmaps tool, he has registered 15 shots, most of which have been from inside the box. As well as being a huge differential, owned by under 2% of managers, the extra budget he frees up can be spent wisely in the other areas, particularly for those managers who are on Wildcard.
To say Bournemouth’s start to a season has been difficult would be a vast understatement. The Cherries are yet to pick up a win so far this campaign, having endured a torrid run of fixtures in which they have faced West Ham, Liverpool, Spurs, Brentford, Chelsea, Arsenal and Brighton.
But their fortunes are changing. In the next three, they face Everton, Wolves and Burnley. If Bournemouth are to start getting points on the board and try to avoid a relegation scrap later in the season, they must start here. This makes Dominic Solanke (£6.4m) a fantastic short-term punt.
Despite the challenging start, Solanke has racked up 4 goal involvements and this number could rocket up in the next three fixtures. He’s cheap and nailed so owners can re-distribute precious budget, without having to worry about game time.
