Fantasy Football Fix 16 Oct. 2023

Several Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers have activated their Wildcard in Gameweek 9 and in this blog, the ideal Wildcard team as per the Fix Algorithm is discussed.

The Fix Assistant Manager feature is a powerful tool which can be customised to generate a Wildcard team for the next five Gameweeks, and the emphasis on a strong bench can also be factored in if required. With the above Customisations and a 0% percent emphasis on substitutes, the tool has generated the below ideal Wildcard team.

Goalkeepers

Rather than rotate Goalkeepers, the Fix Algorithm prefers spending big between the sticks with Alisson in goal. The Brazilian international racked up a whopping 162 points last season and has already managed a sizeable total of 28 this term despite just one clean sheet. As the below image from our Fixture Planner feature shows, Liverpool are second for Defence Difficulty over the next six Gameweeks and Areola can fill in against Burnley when the Merseyside outfit play Man. City at the Etihad in Gameweek 13.

Defenders

Rather than spending extra on Cash, the Algorithm favours Digne, who is £0.3m cheaper than the Polish international. The left-back has already notched three FPL assists and is fourth for chances created (15) amongst defenders. Arsenal (7.25) are second only to Man. City (6.76) for 'Expected Goals Conceded' (xGC) and Gabriel at £4.7m is one of the cheapest entries into their backline after suffering a significant price drop from his £5.0m starting price. Palace are ranked sixth for xGC (10.95) and no side have kept more clean sheets (four) than the Eagles. So, the Algorithm favours a triple-up in defence with Andersen, Guehi and Mitchell all making the squad.

Midfielders

As the below image from our Optimal Player Rotation Strategy shows, Salah is the standout captaincy option in two of the next five Gameweeks against Forest and Brentford (both at Anfield) which sees the Egyptian international make the squad. Saka is currently an injury doubt ahead of their fixture against Chelsea but his inclusion is merited with Arsenal's two home games thereafter against newly promoted sides Sheff. Utd. and Burnley. The funds are spread across the next three midfield positions with D. Luiz, Mbeumo and Gross being rotated according to their fixtures.

Forwards

The top-scoring FPL forward with 59 points is Watkins, and he makes the Algorithm Wildcard squad ahead of Villa's great run of fixtures. This sees the midlands side play West Ham, Luton, Forest, Fulham and Bournemouth in five of the next six Gameweeks. His underlying numbers are excellent as well, which the Stats Sandbox image highlights below. He is second for chances created (16) to Alvarez, and only Haaland (32) has attempted more shots than his 25.

Wissa (25) has also taken as many shots as Watkins and can be rotated out when the Bees play Chelsea and Liverpool as shown in the squad rotation image above. Despite two consecutive blanks, Haaland makes the squad with the Norwegian international an excellent captaincy option in Gameweeks 9, 11 and 13. He is still comfortably top of the attacking metrics with no player being afforded more 'big chances' (BC) (14) than the 23-year-old.
