What are FPL Price Changes?

In the official Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, FPL price changes occur when the ownership levels of players fluctuate. These changes happen once daily, with a player’s price either increasing or decreasing by £0.1m. Within a single gameweek, however, a player's price can rise or fall by a maximum of £0.3m. Most players' prices remain unaffected on any given day, but monitoring FPL price changes can add a strategic element to the game, impacting your ability to make desired transfers. Astute FPL managers who keep an eye on these changes can gain a significant advantage over their competitors.

How Can I Predict FPL Price Changes?

The exact mechanics of FPL price changes are not fully transparent, but ownership levels are a key factor. The Price Change Predictor tool can help you anticipate which players are projected to experience FPL price changes, giving you an edge in building team value and making timely transfers.

When do FPL Price Changes Happen?

FPL price changes typically take place between 1:00 am and 3:00 am. This timing allows managers to finalise their transfer decisions on match days before any price changes occur.

Why Do FPL Price Changes Occur?

FPL price changes happen because of shifts in the number of managers owning a player. Just like a stock's value increases with higher demand, an FPL player's price will rise as more managers add them to their teams. For instance, if Player A is initially priced at £7.0m and performs exceptionally well by Gameweek 6, attracting more managers, his price may increase incrementally to £7.4m by Gameweek 8. Conversely, if Player A gets injured and is subsequently sold by many managers, his price will drop, while an in-form Player B might see a price rise. Various factors such as form, fixtures, injuries, suspensions, or better alternatives can influence FPL price changes.

How Do FPL Price Changes Work?

If a player you own experiences an FPL price change and increases in value, you don't benefit from the full increase when you sell. For example, if you bought Player C at £6.0m and his price rises to £6.6m, you can only sell him for £6.3m. For every £0.2m increase in price during your ownership, you gain £0.1m upon selling. If Player C's price rises further to £6.7m, your selling value remains £6.3m. Conversely, if his price drops to £6.5m, you can sell him for £6.2m. FPL price changes present both opportunities and challenges for managers: well-timed transfers can boost your team value, while price drops can hinder your ability to afford key players.

FPL Price Changes and the Wildcard

Using your Wildcard in FPL allows for unlimited transfers without incurring point hits, offering a great opportunity to capitalise on FPL price changes. You can target players expected to rise in price, buy them before the increase, and sell them for a profit before finalising your Wildcard team. Additionally, you can sell players in your team who are losing value and buy them back at a lower price later. However, be cautious when selling players you intend to repurchase, as you might lose some of the accrued value on that player.
