Gameweek 26: Top Three FPL Captaincy Picks

Fantasy Football Fix 23 Feb. 2024

In this blog, the three best Captaincy options for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Gameweek 26 are discussed. Picks are in the below format:

  1. No.1 predicted by Fix
  2. Alternative high-ownership option. Over 20%
  3. Differential option. Under 20%

Erling Haaland (bou)

Haaland has found the back of the net thrice despite just 375 minutes over the last six Gameweeks and he is second amongst forwards for shots in the box (SiB) (21), and fourth for ‘big chances’ (BC) (six). However, he is still top for goals scored (17) this season with no forward registering more BC (33) or a higher ‘Expected Goals’ (xG) (18.61) tally. Man. City have scored 58 goals this season with only Liverpool (63) managing more. They are ranked second for shots (452), while only Arsenal (52.81) and Liverpool (60.44) have fared better for xG (52.45). Their hosts Bournemouth have conceded 46 goals this season (17th) and have kept five clean sheets. The Cherries are ranked 12th for SiB conceded (236) and 10th for xGC (39.72). Our Predicted Points & Stats tool currently projects a point score of 6.5 for Haaland.

Bukayo Saka (NEW)

Saka has been on fire over the last six Gameweeks with seven goals, more than any player in the league. His total of 25 shots can only be bettered by Foden (30) amongst midfielders while he is top for BC (eight) and xG (4.91). As the below image from our Fix Heatmaps feature shows, he has averaged 9.8 FPL points per game over the aforementioned period. Arsenal are second for goals scored this season (58) and second for SiB (296). 42 of their 73 BC have come at the Emirates. Their visitors Newcastle have conceded 25 goals in 12 away matches this season and have kept just one clean sheet. The Magpies are ranked 11th for shots conceded (192) and 14th for xGC (24.65) in away matches. Our Predicted Points & Stats tool currently projects a point score of 6.0 for Saka.

Hee Chan (SHU)

The injury to Cunha will likely see Hee Chan feature as a centre-forward for Wolves this weekend. The 28-year-old is currently ranked fifth for goals scored (10) amongst midfielders, despite missing four Gameweeks over the Asia Cup. Meanwhile, as the Opta Stats Sandbox image below shows, only Richarlison (15), Bowen (16), Saka (17) and Salah (20) have been afforded more BC amongst midfielders than his 12 this season. Wolves have found the back of the net 39 times (ninth) so far and are ranked 13th for xG (35.82). Their visitors Sheff. Utd. have conceded 65 goals this season (20th) and have kept just one clean sheet. No team has allowed opponents more shots (437), while only Luton (56.66) have a worse xGC (54.53). Our Predicted Points & Stats tool currently projects a point score of 5.8 for Hee Chan.
