Gameweek 30 Midfielders Compared

Fantasy Football Fix 15 March 2022

Only eight teams feature in gameweek 30 and in this blog some of the midfield options are compared over the last six gameweeks using the Fix Comparison Matrix. Averages are used since some teams have played more matches.

Raphinha

Raphinha has averaged only 2.5 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points per match over the last eight gameweeks which is very poor. His underlying numbers have tailed off significantly as well from earlier in the season. Currently he is averaging just 1.6 shots and 0.5 shots on target (SoT) per game. However, the creative numbers still remain strong. The Brazilian tops the comparison for attempted assists (2.1), but it is also interesting to note that he is top for 'big chances' (0.4), which indicates that he is getting good opportunities himself too, and is failing to convert.

Martinelli

Arsenal have been in fine form and Martinelli has registered a goal and an assist over his last two appearances along with strong underlying numbers. The Brazilian is joint-first for goals per game (0.3) and second for both shots (2.3) and SoT (0.8). He is also second for 'big chances' (0.3) but only fourth for attempted assists (1.3), which is indicative of his role as a goalscorer in Arteta's side. At just 5.3 he is the cheapest of the players in the comparison and offers great value.

H. Barnes

H. Barnes has been the form Leicester player over the recent period with a goal and two assists in his last four appearances. The winger tops the comparison for shots (3.2) and SoT (1.2) by some distance, but it is worth mentioning that he is only third for 'big chances' (0.2). This indicates that the chances he is getting are not of great quality. He has also averaged just 1.0 attempted assist per game which might limit his route to points. He has the highest projected score (25.1) over the next five gameweeks as per our Fix Algorithm and Leicester have a good run of fixtures until the end of the season, so he could be a great long-term buy.

Podence

Podence has been going under the radar despite playing 625 minutes over the last six gameweeks, the Portuguese winger is joint-first for goals (0.3) and third for both shots (2.1) and SoT (0.6). His creative numbers are strong with his 2.0 attempted assists per game only being marginally bettered by Raphinha (2.1). Wolves have struggled to create 'big chances' of late, and the fact that he averages only 0.1 'big chance' per game is cause for concern.

Kulusevski

Spurs january signing Kulusevski has quickly cemented his spot in Conte's starting lineup. The Swede tops the comparison for FPL points (5.6), goals (0.3) and assists (0.6) and he has done this while posting solid, albeit not spectacular, underlying numbers. He is fourth for shots (1.7), fifth for SoT (0.4) and third for attempted assists (1.6). Conte clearly admires his workhorse mentality, and values him for chance creation, looking to him to supply 'big chances', rather than be on the end of them. This shows up in his own lowly average of 0.1 'big chances' per match, but he is definitely one to consider for gameweek 30.
