Back-to-back red arrows have seen Elite XI manager, Lari Athi, drop from 247k to just under 1m. The switch from Nicolas Jackson (£7.0m) to Julián Álvarez (£7.0m) didn’t go to plan; a red card for Rodrigo (£5.7m) forced Pep into making a tactical substitution and was not part of the Gameweek 6 script, especially not for the 1 million+ managers who brought the Argentine forward in. At least Lari is now rid of Jackson who, after picking up a fifth yellow card of the campaign, is suspended and will miss the Fulham fixture in Gameweek 7.

Lari’s other transfer fared much better. William Saliba (£5.2m) made way for Sven Botman (£4.7m) as the latter has embarked on a golden run of fixtures. The clean sheet was the aim, but a goal was the cherry on the cake. It is testament to Newcastle’s dominance, that despite a goal and a clean sheet, Botman did not earn any bonus points!
So, the start has not been great. I usually start well, so finding myself around 1m OR is something new. I know many good managers have started badly, so there’s no reason to whine about it. I would have more points if I had just played my Gameweek 1 squad and made no transfers. Getting Jackson for Watkins instead of Alvarez was one in Gameweek 3. I had two transfers in Gameweek 5 and nothing was on fire so I did Johnstone (who I thought was losing his spot) to Flekken but it backfired. I was close to doing Chilwell to Trippier yesterday, but I wasn't sure if Maddison was injured. He is going to have a scan on his knee, but looks like he is good. I can still do Chilwell to Trippier.
Around this time, managers will be thinking about when to Wildcard so that they can plan their transfers optimally. Those who are looking at the next international break to Wildcard will be thinking about a punt or two on Luton players to take advantage of their double in Gameweek 7. Lari, however, is looking to keep his Wildcard longer-term and this will affect his transfer decisions.

Now I am thinking I will avoid [DGW] players because I don't want them long-term except Kabore [who] could be a nice bench fodder instead of Baldock. I think I will save my Wildcard until Boxing Day - if there are no fires I can't handle before that. I know it might not be the optimal time to use it, but for some reason that is what I do every season. Salah will be a difficult decision in the near future. I kind of think that I could go without him, but that can easily change. His npxG is down and not on the level for a £12.5m player.
