In this blog, the three best Captaincy options for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Gameweek 33 are discussed. Picks are in the below format:

  1. No.1 predicted by Fix
  2. Alternative high-ownership option. Over 20%
  3. Differential option. Under 20%

Erling Haaland (LUT)

Haaland has found the back of the net 10 times at the Etihad this season in 13 appearances, the Norwegian international is top for shots in the box (SiB) (50), third for ‘big chances’ (16) and fourth for ‘Expected Goals’ (xG) (9.61) amongst forwards in home matches this season. Man. City have scored 71 goals this season with only Liverpool (72) and Arsenal (75) more prolific. Their total of 559 shots is only bettered by Liverpool (629) and they also trail only the Merseyside outfit for xG (65.74 vs 73.52). Their visitors Luton have conceded 65 goals (third) and have kept just two clean sheets this season. The Hatters are bottom for ‘Expected Goals Conceded’ (xGC) (70.39) and SiB conceded (379). Our Predicted Points & Stats tool currently projects a point score of 8.9 for Haaland.

Mohamed Salah (CPL)

Salah’s 12 goals in home matches is top across all positions this season and and as the Opta Stats Sandbox image below shows the 31-year-old is also top for shots (59) while only Darwin (18) and Isak (19) have been afforded more BC than his 17. No player has registered a higher xG on home turf (11.71). Meanwhile, he is also top for BC created (11) and second for ‘Expected Assists’ (xA) (5.84). Liverpool have scored 43 goals in home matches (first) and are top for shots (396) and xG (46.18). Their visitors Palace have conceded 54 goals (12th) and have kept six clean sheets this campaign. They are ranked sixth for shots conceded (392) and fifth for xGC (47.11). Our Predicted Points & Stats tool currently projects a point score of 7.7 for Salah.

Ivan Toney (SHU)

Toney has not scored since Gameweek 25 but the visit of bottom placed Sheff. Utd. should see the forward return to the goalscoring charts and as the below image from our Match Stats feature shows, his underlying numbers have still been decent. Over Brentford’s last five games, the 28-year-old is second for xG (1.4) and attempted assists (six) and top for shots on target (SoT) (four) which indicates that the returns are coming. Brentford have scored 25 goals in their 16 home matches and are ranked eighth for BC (43). Their visitors Sheff. Utd. have the worst defensive record in the division, the Blades have conceded 82 goals in 31 matches and have just kept one clean sheet all season. The Blades are 20th for shots conceded (564) and 19th for xGC (65.72). Our Predicted Points & Stats tool currently projects a point score of 5.8 for Toney.
