Gameweek 14 Review

With a whopping 78 points banked in Gameweek 14, Paul’s rank has skyrocketed following a mixed season for our veteran Elite XI manager.

Each of his defenders helped get points on the board, including a double-digit return from Kieran Trippier (£5.8m) who is now the highest scoring defender in the game but – according to Insight Live – is owned by 95% of managers in the Top 100k.

Suitably put off by the suspected injury of Erling Haaland (£12.2m), Paul opted for Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) as captain and was rewarded by a 7-point return. An 8-pointer from Gabriel Martinelli (£6.8m) was about all that the rest of his midfield offered, although an FPL assist for Bukayo Saka (£8.0m) took the edge of his early withdrawal due to injury.

But it was up front where the real difference was made with Callum Wilson (£7.4m) returning 19 points in a truly dominant performance against Aston Villa. Two goals and two assists in 85 minutes were enough to put a smile on the faces of the roughly 275,000 managers who owned him pre-deadline.
