Gameweek 16 Review

On what was a difficult weekend for many, Gameweek 16 was also unkind to James, and saw him take a red arrow from 39k to 76k, despite his team being well set up for the fixtures.

At the back it was only the super reliable Kieran Trippier (£5.9m) who returned, with Vicente Guaita (£4.5m), Lewis Dunk (£4.7m) and João Cancelo (£7.4m) all blanking.

In midfield, it was a similar story with Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) blanking, despite an easy fixture against Southampton. Frustration peaked when Wilfried Zaha (£7.5m) missed a penalty and Marcus Rashford (£6.7m) couldn’t bag a return against one of the poorest defences in the league (according to the Opta Stats Sandbox tool). The only ray of sunshine, in an otherwise dismal midfield display, was 6 points from Gabriel Martinelli (£6.8m) who was awarded an assist and a clean sheet point against Wolves.

Up front it was a rare blank for Erling Haaland (£12.2) who, according to our Live Insight tool had been captained by just under 88% of managers in the Top 100k. James’ Gameweek 16 transfer – Gabriel Jesus (£8.0m) – also blanked, and so it was left to Darwin Núñez (£9.0m), who was the top transfer target from our GW16: Buy, Sell, Keep article last week, to save the day with two goals and full bonus points.

Despite the disappointing Gameweek, James goes into the winter World Cup break in an enviable position, sitting inside the coveted Top 100k with his chips intact and unlimited transfers to play with.
