GW2 Top Three Captaincy Picks

Fantasy Football Fix 13 Aug. 2019

Caveat - Captaincy picks are in the below format:

  • Number one pick predicted as per the Fix Algorithm
  • Differential pick (Under 25% ownership)
  • 'Out there' pick (Under 15% ownership)

Mohamed Salah (sou)

Salah scored for the third consecutive opening weekend and the Egyptian is backed as the standout captain pick once again for the Reds' visit to the South Coast. Although Salah managed only one shot on target (SoT) against Norwich, he did attempt three assists and looked a constant menace throughout. No midfielder registered more goals (nine), shots (62) or 'big chances' (15) than Salah in away matches last season. He was also Liverpool's most creative midfielder on their travels with 30 attempted assists. Only Man. City (38) scored more than Liverpool's 34 goals on the road last season and the Merseyside club were also second only to the Champions (48) for 'big chances' (46). Southampton had a horror start to their new campaign, conceding three goals to Burnley and are unlikely to park the bus in front of their own fans. The Saints conceded 30 goals at St. Marys last season, the fifth-worst in the league and only Watford (44) and Huddersfield (47) allowed opponents more 'big chances' than their 41. Our Fix Algorithm backs the Egyptian to keep delivering with a point score of 6.8.

Callum Wilson (avl)

Wilson was unlucky to come away with just an assist against Sheff. Utd and the Englishman will be gunning to open his goal-scoring account as the Cherries visit Villa Park in gameweek two. Only Vardy (10) and Kane (11) scored more goals amongst forwards in away matches than Wilson's nine last campaign. The Englishman was also ranked fourth for 'big chances' with 14 and third for 'big chances created' with four. Bournemouth scored 26 goals in their away matches last season, the eighth-highest in the league and were sixth for 'big chances' with 42. No team conceded more shots in the box (SiB) than Villa's 17 in gameweek one and only West Ham (five) conceded more 'big chances' than their four. Given Smith's management style, Villa are likely to be Gung-Ho in their first home game back in the Premier League, and this should suit the Cherries' counter-attacking style. Our Fix Algorithm backs Wilson to get attacking returns with a point score of 4.2.

Gylfi Sigurdsson (WAT)

Everton were unfortunate to only get a point at Selhurst Park in gameweek one and will be looking to kick off their campaign at home against Watford. As the Custom Stats table shows, amongst midfielders only Mané (57), Pogba (61) and Salah (75) took more shots than Sigurdsson's 54 in home matches last season and only Maddison (53) and Hazard (56) created more chances than his 46. The Toffees scored 30 goals in their home matches last season, with only seven teams bettering that number. They created a chance every 6.5 minutes, again the eighth-best in the league. Watford conceded 59 goals last season keeping just 7 clean sheets, and only relegated Huddersfield and Fulham (both five) managed fewer. Their total of 98 'big chances' conceded was only three fewer than bottom placed Fulham's 101 and the 3-0 loss at home to Brighton indicates that they are yet to rectify their defensive issues. Our Fix Algorithm backs Sigurdsson to get attacking returns with a point score of 6.3.
