Arsenal were deserved winners in a London Derby against Brentford with an 'Expected Goals' (xG) figure of 1.54. The Gunners took a whopping 24 shots and landed eight shots on target (SoT). Brentford managed just six shots and scored with one of their only two SoT. Their xG of 0.53 indicates that Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers who backed the Gunners' defence were unfortunate to lose their clean sheet.
Ødegaard was top amongst all players in this match for xG (0.43) and took three shots, landing one on target. Usually the creative fulcrum of the team, he created only once chance with Lacazette (three) the chief creator. Saka took six shots with only Klich (seven) and Salah (eight) managing more this weekend. However, all these attempts added up to only 0.39 xG so he was not afforded many high quality chances. Lacazette's three attempts were similarly of poor quality and the Frenchman notched an xG of just 0.15.
Liverpool were completely dominant against Norwich and notched a whopping xG of 3.77, the highest of any team this weekend. The Merseyside outfit took 29 shots and landed eight SoT with their visitors scoring from one of their six shots. The Canaries managed an xG of 0.58 and were lucky to score via the deflection.
Mané (1.11) and Salah (1.10) accounted for a large chunk of Liverpool's xG (3.77) with Salah particularly posting impressive numbers. The Egyptian King was top for shots (eight), SoT (three) and chances created (six) amongst all players across all positions this weekend and could have registered a much bigger score on another day. New signing Díaz put in an impressive shift, his five chances created trails only Salah and he took four shots as well. Pukki was Norwich's chief goal threat with two and an xG of 0.41.
Southampton recorded a whopping 11 SoT against Everton, the most by any team this weekend and registered an xG of 2.29. Everton were abysmal, the Toffees took nine shots but landed none of them on target and recorded an xG figure of just 0.22, the lowest of any team this weekend.
The Saints spread their goal attempts with no player landing more than two SoT. Budget defender Livramento was top for xG (0.65) with his only attempt coming from close range. Popular forward option Broja led the game for shots (four) but notched an xG of just 0.26 indicating these were low quality chances. Walker-Peters' numbers catch the eye, the fullback took four shots, landed two on target and attempted two assists as well. Ward-Prowse was the chief creator with four attempted assists, his xA figure of 1.45 and three 'big chances' created should put him on the radar for FPL managers ahead of their double in gameweek 28.
