Arsenal lost 2-1 at home to Brighton and on the basis of the above numbers from our Match Stats feature they were quite unlucky. The Gunners racked up 2.51 'Expected Goals' (xG) compared to just 0.57 for their visitors. They also landed more shots on target (four) and outshot Brighton 20 to eight.
Two of Arsenal's substitutes Pépé (0.64) and Nketiah (0.62) along with Martinelli (0.62) were the top xG performers in this match while the popular Saka could manage just 0.14. Saka did create five chances and racked up an 'Expected Assists' (xA) figure of 0.81 which indicates he took a more creative role in this game. The usually creative Ødegaard attempted no assists but did take three shots, and the absence of Partey in midfield seems to be affecting the Norwegian. Lacazette took zero shots and attempted just one assist which is worrying for his owners. Mwepu stood out from Brighton, the 24-year old took three shots and had his only chance created converted leading to a 14-point haul.
Like Arsenal, Leicester double in gameweek 33 and their assets are of interest to Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers. The Foxes rotated heavily with Schmeichel and Maddison the only popular FPL options to feature in this game. They could only muster a total xG of 0.76, while Palace managed a total of 1.63. The Palace xG numbers are slightly inflated though as the data below will explain.
Zaha accounted for 1.20 of Palace's 1.63 xG with a large chunk of that attributed to the penalty which was saved by Schmeichel and the follow-up which he scored. He did post decent numbers though, with five shots, two SoT and two attempted assists. Maddison was by some distance the most impressive performer from Leicester, the 25-year old took three shots registering a total of 0.33 xG and also attempted three assists. Dewsbury-Hall scored from his only SoT and had his only chance created converted so while he is a good budget option, expectations need to be tempered. Daka offered little up top with zero attempted assists and one shot leading to just 0.02 xG.
The top of the table clash lived up to the hype as Man. City and Liverpool put on an attacking display with 1.29 and 1.20 xG respectively. Man. City will feel they slightly edged the game with 11 shots compared to just six for the visitors but the chances Liverpool did create were of high quality.
Jota looks to have established himself as Liverpool's first choice number nine and the Portugal international topped the xG charts (0.78) with his two SoT. Jesus was Man. City's most attacking player with four shots and registered a total of 0.55 xG. De Bruyne scored from outside the box and registered just 0.11 xG while also attempting two assists. Sterling was afforded one gilt-edged opportunity but offered little apart from that. Salah seemed to take on a more creative role, having created the most chances (three) in the game, but took only one shot.
