GW34 Buy, Sell, Keep

28 April 2023

As the deadline looms closer, it is time to decide what to do with our precious free transfer(s). Aside from playing chips or selecting a captain, our transfers are the single most important aspect of our FPL campaign, and the importance of getting it right cannot be overstated.

In this article we crunch the numbers, analyse the fixtures, take advice from the Algorithm, and decide which player to buy, which player to sell, and which player to keep for Gameweek 34.

BUY: Kevin De Bruyne

  • Cost: £12.1m

De Bruyne

For regular readers of this weekly blog, you have been advised, in the last three Gameweeks, to bring in Mohamed Salah (£13.0m), Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) and Solly March (£5.5m). Assuming you already own Erling Haaland (£12.2m) – as every single manager in the Top 1,000 does (Live Insight) – then there is only one other player who you may want to seriously consider squeezing into your squad: Kevin De Bruyne (£12.1m).

The Belgian wizard is back to his best. Averaging – a frankly ridiculous – 12.5 points per game in the last four Gameweeks. De Bruyne is in outstanding form and, as the closest thing Manchester City has to a talisman, he will be looking to use his unique skills, leadership, and experience to see his team lift another title.

If you already own the above-mentioned players, then there is no doubt that bringing him in will be a struggle, and likely involve some major team re-structuring – if you no longer have your Wildcard or Free Hit chip left. If, for your squad, this is simply not possible, then an alternative would be to switch Salah to De Bruyne for City’s double in Gameweek 37; however, this is a less explosive solution.
