GW35 Differential Focus

4 May 2023

If you are the sort of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) manager who enjoys going against the grain – or takes satisfaction from finding hidden gems before the crowd – then lowly selected players (differentials) can often provide value and offer a source of points which won’t be shared by many other managers. As long as the player picks are justifiable, differentials can give you an edge over your mini-league rivals.

In this article we look ahead to Gameweek 35 and find players from each position who are currently selected by less than 10% of managers, but could reward their owners in the upcoming Gameweeks.

Caveat: this article was written on Thursday 4th May, with a Gameweek 34 fixture still to be played.

If you are looking for a new defender but would like to go differential – while making a sensible move – then it’s hard to think of a better option than Lewis Dunk (£4.8m).

Assuming you haven’t already tripled-up on Brighton assets, targeting their defence is a good option between now and the end of the season. According to the Fixture Planner, Brighton has the easiest defensive fixture in Gameweek 35 – when they face toothless Everton at home – followed by two, back-to-back, double Gameweeks.

The trouble with so many fixtures in such a short space of time is that De Zerbi will be forced to rotate his players, something FPL managers have already experienced, with popular assets such as Kaoru Mitoma (£5.6m) and Alexis Mac Allister (£5.5m) dropping minutes.

Lewis Dunk on the other hand, is about as ‘nailed’ as it gets – according to Opta Stats Sandbox, no Brighton player has had more game-time than Dunk (2789 minutes), playing the full 90 of every game so far this season.
