GW8: Differential Focus

14 Sept. 2022

If you are the sort of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) manager who enjoys going against the grain – or takes satisfaction from finding hidden gems before the crowd – then lowly selected players (differentials) can often provide value and offer a source of points which won’t be shared by many other managers. As long as the player picks are justifiable, differentials can give you an edge over your mini-league rivals.

In this article we look ahead to Gameweek 8 and find players from each position who are currently selected by less than 10% of managers, but could reward their owners in the upcoming gameweeks.

Aston Villa is ranked 4th best for defensive difficulty in the next six Gameweeks - taken from Fixture Planner

With 10 goals conceded, and no clean sheets in six matches, it is understandable why Aston Villa’s defensive assets are not highly owned. However, if you are in the market for a goalkeeper and are looking to go differential, then Emiliano Martínez (£4.9m) could be the way to go.

It is worth bearing in mind that Villa have played West Ham, Arsenal and Manchester City in their last three matches and so clean sheets there were unlikely anyway, but the fixtures are changing for Villa, who are ranked 4th for defence difficulty over the next six Gameweeks, and so the clean sheets could be on their way.
