GW9: Buy, Sell, Keep

30 Sept. 2022

As the deadline looms closer, it is time to decide what to do with our precious free transfer(s). Aside from playing chips or selecting a captain, our transfers are the single most important aspect of our FPL campaign, and the importance of getting it right cannot be overstated.

In this article we crunch the numbers, analyse the fixtures, take advice from the Algorithm, and decide which player to buy, which player to sell, and which player to keep for Gameweek 9.

James Maddison

Working on the basis that you already own Erling Haaland (£12.0m), your next transfer target should be none other than Leicester’s James Maddison (£7.9m) who at just over 7% ownership is something of a differential moving into Gameweek 9 and a serious captaincy contender for their home fixture against Nottingham Forest.

When a player has both form and fixtures on their side, this is usually a strong indication to buy. Leicester City has arguably the best attacking fixtures over the next four Gameweeks and Maddison is expected to be at the forefront of any goal involvements the Foxes get in that time.

With four goal involvements in six games, Maddison is by far the most dangerous Leicester asset this season. The underlying numbers suggest he is prioritising getting on the score sheet and he is ranked 2nd amongst midfielders for shots per 90 minutes (3.33), with only Son Heung-min (£11.7m) ahead with 3.61.
