Arsenal play bottom of the table Forest in gameweek 14 and in this blog two of their standout midfield options Martinelli and Saka are compared over the last six gameweeks using our Fix Heatmaps feature.
Martinelli has been taking wider positions of late, largely due to the lack of the width provided by Tomiyasu who has been playing left-back in Tierney/Zinchenko's absence. White has grown comfortable in the right-back role and his overlapping runs have allowed Saka to take up more interior positions in the box which has allowed better shooting opportunities.
The 'Average Defensive Radar' indicates both players are doing the same amount of defensive work but Saka's 'Average Attacking Radar' is far superior. He appears to have significantly more goal threat than Martinelli with the Brazilian international edging him out for creativity.
The underlying numbers back up what was seen on the radar, Saka has taken nine shots in the box to Martinelli's five and beats him significantly for 'Expected Goals' (2.40 vs 0.90). He has landed double the shots on target (six to three) and has even attempted more assists (nine to six). However, Martinelli's 1.28 'Expected Assists' compares favourably to Saka's 0.33 which indicates that the Brazilian international is creating chances of better quality.
As the above image from our FPL Statistics feature shows, Saka is owned by just 23.7% of the Top 1000 compared to over 70% for Martinelli. Saka appears to be the better option based on the underlying numbers and could be a great differential to gain rank over the next three gameweeks.
