In this blog some of the key matches in gameweek 35 are analysed using the Fix Match Stats feature.
Spurs racked up three goals from an 'Expected Goals' (xG) of just 1.26 but were still deserved winners with their visitors managing just 0.29. They took 13 shots compared to the Foxes' six and landed seven shots on target (SoT) to their visitors' two.
Kane scored the first goal of the game and was the top xG performer (0.64), he was also top for shots (four) but in contrast to what we have seen over the last few games, he attempted no assists. Son racked up two goals from an xG of just 0.40 and the Korean was also the game's most creative player with four attempted assists. The pair accounted for 1.04 of Spurs' total 1.26 xG. No Leicester player managed an xG greater than 0.10
As the above image from our Fix Heatmaps feature shows, Son (73) has scored nearly double the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points as Kane (37) has managed over the last six gameweeks. The stats show that he has notched a higher xG than Kane (2.62 to 2.24) and landed more SoT (10 to four) while creating just one chance fewer (12 to 13). The Korean looks to be a better FPL option for the remaining weeks ahead.
Despite benching Salah and Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool racked up an xG of 1.85 from 24 shots and a whopping 10 SoT. The Magpies offered very little in terms of attack with only 0.16 xG and two SoT
Díaz (0.47) and Jota (0.44) were the standout xG performers with the Portugal international also creating four chances and landing four SoT to the Colombian's one. Mané had a quiet game by his standards, the winger took three shots, landed one SoT and created no chances. Salah was a late substitute and managed just one SoT in his 21 minutes. Newcastle barely threatened their goal with no player registering an xG higher than 0.08.
Villa assets are of interest to FPL managers with the Birmingham side enjoying back to back double gameweeks in 36 and 37 and they were deserved winners against the Canaries with an xG of 2.02 to their visitors' 0.47. They took 21 shots and landed six SoT while their visitors could manage just nine shots and three SoT.
Despite playing only 50 minutes Ings was the top xG performer (0.60), the forward took four shots, landed two SoT and also created two chances. Coutinho did take four shots but these were speculative attempts as his xG of 0.20 shows. However, he did create four chances and played a more advanced role upon Ings' introduction. Watkins took six shots with only Kucka (eight) taking more this gameweek, and the forward was second only to Macallister for xFPL as the below image from our Custom Stats table shows.
