Mid-priced Midfielders Compared

Fantasy Football Fix 9 Nov. 2022

Several managers are in need of a mid-priced midfielder punt for the last gameweek before Fantasy Premier League (FPL) offer unlimited transfers during the World Cup break. In this blog player numbers are compared using the Fix Comparison Matrix.

Bukayo Saka (wol)

Saka tops the comparison for FPL points per game (6.8), goals (0.6) and assists (0.4), but in terms of goal threat, he is bottom for shots (1.8) and second-bottom for shots on target (SoT). However, he does average 0.4 ‘big chances’ per game and is on penalty duties for one of the most attacking teams in the league.

Wilfried Zaha (nfo)

Zaha was fielded up top against West Ham in Edouard’s absence and it is likely he continues in that role against Forest in gameweek 16. The Ivory Coast international’s numbers are decent with 2.7 shots and 1.0 SoT per game but it is worth mentioning again that most of these numbers are from when he played on the wing, his goal threat increases significantly when he plays as a striker.

Leandro Trossard (AVL)

Like Zaha, Trossard was fielded as a striker by his manager over the last two gameweeks and the Belgian international tops the comparison for both shots (3.0) and SoT (1.2) which would indicate that he possibly has the highest ceiling for FPL points from the players under consideration. He is also second for ‘big chances’ per game (0.5).

James Maddison (whu)

Maddison is top of the comparison for assists per game (0.4), attempted assists (2.8) and shots (3.0), but it is interesting to note that he is bottom for SoT (0.6) which would indicate that most of his efforts have been speculative and from long range. The fixture away against West Ham is also a bit off-putting, with the Hammers ranking in the top four best teams for ‘Expected Goals’ conceded this season as shown in the Stats Sandbox image below.

Marcus Rashford (ful)

Rashford was fielded on the right-wing in gameweek 15 after playing as a striker in the last few games. The England international tops the comparison for SoT per game (1.2) and averages nearly a ‘big chance’ every game (0.8), which again indicates a high potential for a double-digit haul against a Fulham side that have shipped plenty of goals

What do the projections say?

gw16blogmids2

Saka (4.8) and Zaha (4.6) sit in the top-three for highest projected points as per by our Fix Algorithm for gameweek 16, with Maddison (4.4) and Rashford (4.2) close behind.
