Born in Poole, England in 1997, White started his youth career at Southampton and joined the Brighton academy at the age of 16 after being released by the Saints. He made his debut for the Seagulls in 2016 with his appearances largely restricted to cup appearances in his first year. He was loaned to Newport County the following season where he made 42 appearances in League Two and won their Player of the Year award. He returned to Brighton the following season but failed to make a single appearance for the first team and was again loaned out in January 2019, this time to Peterborough United. He made 16 appearances during his second loan spell and was again loaned out in the 2019/20 season to Leeds United. A key part of their promotion campaign, White featured in every single league game for the Yorkshire side and was named in the PFA Team of the Year for the season. Brighton rejected multiple bids for the centre-back in the 2020/21 transfer window and he featured in all but two games for the Seagulls.

Arsenal have spent big money on White and given the departure of Luiz and the injury to Gabriel, he is surely going straight into their starting lineup. A ball playing centre-back, White is also comfortable playing as a defensive midfielder or as a right-back and his versatility should ensure he is always on the team sheet. In terms of attacking potential, he offers very little goal threat with just one goal over his last two full seasons. However, at just 4.5 he offers a secure entry into an Arsenal defence that conceded just 39 goals last season, the third fewest in the league.
