Born in Leicester, Adams made his debut for Oadby Town in the United Counties League in 2012 and was signed by Sheffield United from Ilkeston in 2014. He only made 10 league appearances in his first season in League one but things got better for him in his second season as he scored 11 goals in 36 appearances. He was then signed by Birmingham for a fee of £2 million and went on to feature in 40 matches during his first season for the Blues, scoring seven goals and providing six assists. His appearances and goals dwindled (30 appearances, five goals, two assists) the following season but the 2018/19 campaign was by some distance his best. He scored 22 goals in 46 appearances and was featured in the Championship Team of the Season. A physical powerhouse, the 22-year-old should take to the Premier League like a duck to water as he also possesses pace. Southampton struggled to score goals last season and their three strikers Austin, Ings and Long only scored a combined 14 goals. Hasenhüttl has already shown his commitment to youth during his brief time with the Saints and is likely to thrust Adams straight into the first-team. His attributes make him an ideal target man and he should enhance the output of wingers such as Redmond who can play off him. Only seven teams attempted more shots than Southampton in the last six weeks of the 2018/19 season and at just 6.0 in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), he could be worth considering when Saints have a decent run of fixtures.
