Originally a glass collector at his local pub, Dawson started his career at Radcliffe Borough in 2007 and went on to sign for Rochdale where he made 46 appearances scoring 10 goals and featured in the League Two PFA Team of the year. He signed for West Brom in August 2010 and was in and out of their lineup until the arrival of Tony Pulis in 2015. One of the first names on the team sheet under the set piece specialist, he registered 12 goals across his last four seasons in the Premier League and was a Fantasy Premier League (FPL) favourite, registering a total of 412 points, an average of 103. His attacking contributions continued in the Championship as he notched three goals and three assists for the Baggies. Watford chopped and changed their centre-back combination several times last season, with Kabasele and Mariappa both seeing gametime alongside Cathcart. Only relegated Fulham and Huddersfield kept fewer clean sheets than the Hornets’ seven and no team conceded more ‘big chances' in the run-in. Given his experience at this level, Dawson is likely to slot straight into Gracia’s starting lineup but given their defensive frailties, it is probably best to wait and watch if their defensive issues can be sorted out. His 5.0 price tag means he is 0.5 more expensive than Cathcart but his proven goal threat probably makes him the best Watford defensive option.
