A product of Burnley’s youth system, Rodriguez made his senior debut for the club in December 2007 and then featured in short loan spells for Stirling Albion and Barnsley. In his initial five years at the Clarets, the forward made 105 appearances in the Championship, notching 31 goals and 13 assists. He was signed by Southampton in June of 2012 for a fee of £7 million and went straight into their lineup for the opening game against Man. City. He then went on to score 26 goals and lay on 13 assists in his 104 appearances for the South coast club. However, he suffered a major knee injury in April 2014 that kept him out for the entire 2014/15 campaign and though he made a successful comeback in the 2016 season, he was clearly not the same player. He was then signed by West Brom for the 2017/18 season for a fee of £12 million and scored seven goals for them in the Premier League in 37 appearances as well as 22 goals in 45 Championship appearances. Burnley have now secured his services for a fee of £10 million and he is likely to compete with Wood and Barnes for the striker spots. His versatility means he can also feature in one of the wide positions but until his role is clear in Dyche’s setup, he is best avoided from a Fantasy Premier League (FPL) standpoint. Woods and Barnes registered a combined 28 FPL involvements and are fundamental to Dyche’s philosophy but despite his pedigree, it remains to be seen where Rodriguez fits in just yet.
