Originally starting out as a goalkeeper for local side Solitaire Paris Est till the age of 14, Pepe only started playing professionally in outfield with Championnat de France Amateur 2 in the fifth tier of French football in 2012. He was then signed by Angers in 2013 and played for their reserves for a short period before moving up to the first team in 2016. His career really took off after he was signed by Lille in June 2017 for a fee of just €10 million. He started out playing as a striker under the initial Lille manager Bielsa but was converted to a winger by new manager Galtier. He notched 13 goals and five assists over 36 appearances in his first campaign and improved on that significantly in 2018/19 scoring 22 goals and assisting 11 in 38 matches. The Ivory Coast international was wanted by numerous top clubs including Napoli over the summer but the Gunners managed to pull off what might be one of the best signings of this transfer window for a club record fee of £72 million. Left footed but usually stationed on the right wing, the 24 year old has an eye for goal to go along with his great crossing and dribbling ability. However, he is unlikely to take over penalties from Aubameyang despite his great record from spot kicks. Coming in at 9.5m in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), he is the same price as proven FPL assets De Bruyne and Son and is not a price point you want to gamble on. Given that he has only two seasons of top flight experience, it is probably best to wait and see how well he can adapt to the English game.
