It’s over! 38 game weeks are all done and dusted and Fantasy Premier League, which has absorbed our minds over the last 9 months, is now nothing more than a huge amount of statistics and memories. We have our final positions in our mini leagues and the overall competition and we can now reflect on how the 2014/2015 season went.
Before the season review, lets have a quick look at how GW 38 went for Wain’s Wonders. The last game week actually turned out to be the second worst in terms of game week rank for me, finishing with 34 points and a game week rank of 2,293,649. The transfers were a disaster as I took a 4 point hit to take out Hazard and Giroud for Lukaku, whom I captained, and Mata. I wanted to have as many differentials compared to the World Number 1 team as possible, in one last ditch to make up ground. I even decided to play Grealish over Cazorla and this decision along with the transfers and the bold captaincy decision nearly cost me a top 10 finish. Fortunately I scored just enough points to keep a single figure rank and finished 9th out of 3,502,998 players.
This rank was beyond my wildest dreams at the start of the season and even though I didn’t win I am immensely happy at the season I have had. Having targeted a top 10,000 finish for the second season in a row, the boom up the rankings was exhilarating and the final push to reach the top 10, which seemed to take forever, was an amazing feeling. Now is a good point to congratulate Simon March, the overall winner, who has achieved what everyone dreams of when signing up at the start of each season. He managed to stay in the top 10 since week 18 and was world number 1 for the final 14 game weeks. It’s incredible that he fought off all the challengers behind him without a single slip in the rank, and not even a Theo Walcott hat trick could topple him on the final day. The world number 2 started the final day in 4th place, 47 points behind the leader and at one point when Walcott was smashing home the goals it looked like a huge upset was on the cards. It wasn’t to be however and Simon won Fantasy Premier League 2014/2015 by a massive 21 points.
What to do now that the season is over? For anyone struggling to fill the void left by the end of the season, there are a lot of stats to muse over. If anyone cares to compare their season to someone in the top 10 then my ID is 28835 for you to have a look at.
Having analysed the season statistics I intend to have a break from fantasy football. The fight in the top echelons of the overall competition has been all consuming, leading to me spending hours researching statistics, on the forums and on Twitter. I was even interviewed for the national student newspaper, The Tab, and was also invited to film the FantasyFootballScout scoutcast in GW 37 which was a highlight of the season. There are still the conclusions of the FA Cup, Europa League and Champions league to watch and then the fixtures for next season are released on 17th June to get analysing. The official fantasy website is likely to be updated in mid July and then I can get creating my team for next season in an attempt to improve on my 9th placed finish. Not that long a break from fantasy football then!
To finish my final update I have to say a massive thank you to the guys at FantasyFootballFix for inviting me to write down my thoughts each week. I hope you have enjoyed reading my updates and following my progress into the top 10, culminating in a one week rank of 2nd in GW 34 and a top 10 finish. Also thank you’s to my housemates, girlfriend and family for putting up with me over the last couple of months. It has been pretty intense since I entered the top 50 and I must have been pretty boring to talk to as I spent most of it thinking about and trying to engage everyone in conversation about football!
That’s all for this season. Whether or not you won your mini leagues or achieved your target overall rank I hope you had a great season, enjoy the offseason and come back in August ready to improve on this seasons rank. I will still be on Twitter @jawain04 next season, happy to discuss the initial line ups and any transfer decision you may have as I try to improve on this unbelievable year. Until then, good night!
